Now THAT is how you deal with an inferior opponent. Absolute domination from start to finish.
We really used our size advantage well and cut them up inside. Greg was absolutely phenomenal. It looked like he could have scored 40 if he wanted to.
Defensively, we forced them to attempt more 3 pointers than 2 pointers. Not many teams are going to win that way.
I like how economical we are from 3. We don't shoot many, but we don't miss many either. That means a lot fewer wasted possessions and a lot more high-percentage shots inside.

Sims can contribute but MUST be given the opportunity to play with some of the starters for more than a minute. This game should help him. Ditto for Vee. I really like Thompson and Jerelle, but I think that as a tweener, Jerelle's best hop can be as a quasi-Vaughn on the floor. The major difference is 2" in height, which could prove significant against taller teams.

How about Greg's pass to Henry on that give and go? Henry on the wing, fires it in to Greg at the high post, Greg fires it right back to Henry streaking to the bucket for a quick layup and one.
The speed and accuracy of BOTH players on the execution of that play was awesome.
When these guys pass it in to Greg, they know there's an EXCELLENT chance they get it back -- or someone else with a more open shot gets it.
Greg is already the best passing big man in Hoya History. He is a different type of player than Patrick, Zo, Deke et al, but that doesn't make him any less valuable. The way he is playing this year, especially over the last 5-6 games, this kid is really coming on VERY strong.. on the boards as TBird and Giga posted, around the bucket, even hitting 3's and his outstanding passing.
VERY tough assingment for opponents.
Chris had a great comment during the post game presser. He was asked if when he sees Greg getting doubled, teams collapsing on Greg in the middle, "does something click for you that now your Three ball is going to be open?". his reply was something like, "er, uh no... what clicks for me is get the ball into Greg! and let him make the decision on where it should go".
I love that response. It reminds me of Chris' comments before the season that our Hoyas will go as far as Greg carries them. EVERYTHING we do starts with Greg in the middle. He is already one of the very best players in the country, and he's gettting better every week.

Is it my imagination or does coach taLk a lot to Ryan D. alot during game? Hoyaalf I noticed this too. He was talking to him a ton today. There were several times where I noticed him sitting with him on the bench and some points where it looked like Ryan was trying to get Coach's attention to tell him something.

For those interested, there is a replay of today's game tonight at 8 for anyone with SNY. Also, ESPN Classic is showing 2 Georgetown/Cuse games (2 PM and 5 PM) in our lead-up to the game on Monday and a third one on Tuesday at 9 PM. The games are from 2/10/81, 1/21/91 and 1/10/83, respectively. Only the 83 game is a win. Edited ESPN Classic they always show cuse victories. Anyway good game. Got sloppy at times, but that's the be expected. Got some good bench minutes eventually, but would've liked to see henry in their earlier. Good solid win. Now lets crush cuse!

I thought there were two or three plays where Greg was obviously looking to get Henry the ball in an effort to get his roommate (I think they're roommates?) into the swing of this team's offense a little bit. And with maybe one exception, Henry ended up scoring, getting the crowd fired up, building confidence, etc. If Greg was actually doing it intentionally, it was outstanding leadership on his part.

Nothing much to add. Nice to get a comfortable blow out win, and especially to get so many bench minutes before a crucial week. Too bad Henry couldn't throw down that 1 handed oop. That would have brought the place down.
Also, Rosario has no conscience. I felt like he took 3 pointers on what seemed like 7 straight possessions.

It was really weird seeing all the computer gobbledydook up on the screen as they repeatedly tried to master the scoreboard. Does anyone know what went wrong? I was wondering if they had a substitute operator, perhaps. Made it a bit more like Kenner, and made me concentrate more on the actual basketball without being distracted by in-game stats.
I kinda feel sorry for the Rutgers players. They and their coach are over their heads. Mitchell has a nice shot, though, and #5 was strong early.

My theory was that it was an act of good sportsmanship to not show everyone how badly we were destroying them.

As was mentioned in the pre-game posts, the Rutgers team has just quit on its coach. From about 16:00-10:00 in both halves, it seemed as though they were determined to not get the ball inside and gun every three that was remotely open. I've never seen an entire team turn into Gilbert Arenas for several minutes, but it happened twice this game.

I've never seen an entire team turn into Gilbert Arenas for several minutes, but it happened twice this game. Yeah, Mike Rosario has kind of a problem with that. From 15:18 to 7:11 of the second half, Jonny Flynn's springboard ( ) took 8 straight shots and ultimately 10 of 12 shots for RU. He was 4-10 during that span, and RU went from down 21 to down 30. On one play, he came up lame with a cramp in the corner by the bench. He was dragging his leg along with his hand on his side and could barely move around. Yet he managed to hobble over to the opposite side three point line and took a ridiculous contested three as soon as he was passed the ball. It barely grazed the far side of the rim. He's gonna look awesome in a Hofstra uniform next season.

I'm a little surprised Rutgers has fallen back down to the bottom again ---- I thought they had it going for a bit with the Quincy Douby teams.
I wonder what the calculus is for Rutgers, South Florida, Depaul et al. for staying in a conference where they are roadkill every year -- maybe football compensates, but jeez.

It's college basketball, so all you need is a good coach. It's not like Fred Hill didn't get some talent to Rutgers, but they wildly underperformed. Echenique, N'Diaye, Rosario plus Miller and Mitchell, Inman, etc., all could/can be good BE players. But he couldn't deliver as a coach. Other guys could coach but not recruit.

perhaps they should see if Hill would be willing to step down and becoem an assistant and continue recruiting for them. Then bring in someone who can actually coach.

The major difference is 2" in height, which could prove significant against taller teams. The difference between Jerelle and Sims is that Jerelle is built like a tree stump and is an immovable object, a body ready-built for Big East play. I think Sims needs to be given time but when he gets in a game against good competition (SU) he needs to play smartly and with composure. Hopefully this game was a big confidence booster for Vee, he really showed athletic potential, good to see.
