How Do You Spell Trap--RUTGERS
Saturday will provide a big test for this team's maturity. No way the players can not take Rutgers a little lightly. Hopefully, they saw the score of Depaul/Marquette. Last year, this team would struggle mightily in a game of this type. What I would like to see is for the team to come out quickly and then for the coaching staff to start getting Sims and Sanford in the mix for some serious playing time. Nova is not the last time this team will have to deal with foul trouble.

If it was on the road, I'd agree. Don't see them letting up in front of the home crowd! I love this team!

Yeah um if we were play USF it'd be a trap game, but rutgers. I think we could pick any 2 starters then only play bench players and never the other 3 starters and win this game. Rutgers is BAD. 1) lost their best big man in Echinique 2) Their star Rosario has stopped caring because his team sucks so bad 3) The only good players to watch out for are Ndiaye and their freshman miller

I don't think this is a trap game. I think our players expected to beat Pitt, so they are not riding any type of high. We are mature in the way we approach games this year. I was worried about the Seton Hall game, but after seeing the way we handled our business after a highly emotional win against UConn, trap game is no longer in my vocabulary with reference to this team.

1) Rutgers is TERRIBLE
2) Georgetown is VERY GOOD
3) This game is at home.
4) Rutgers is TERRIBLE
5) Georgetown is not a Marquette--dependent on one player/one facet of the game (3-pt shooting) to succeed.
6) Rutgers on the road isn't DePaul at home.
If you want to restart this discussion when we go to the RAC prior to our not-exactly-easy home stretch of Syracuse, @louisville, ND, @wvu, Cincinnati, that's fine.

I live in Piscataway and I can tell you it is a lost season for RU. The coach is all but fired and for very good reason. The players honestly do not care, especially Rosario. Their senior center was crying after the latest defeat to Nova because the team really just gave up and rolled over. I feel terrible for the RU players right now and it goes to show you how important a coach can be to a CBB program. Hill was the absolute wrong choice and instead of quickly making the change when it was clearly visible he was in over his head, the program was allowed sink to depths not seen in the BE in a long time. Honestly, Depaul has a shot at sweeping RU, given they beat MU at home last night and are playing hard.
Playing RU right now is like playing Mt St Mary's or any other mid-major at home. This should be an easy W and I want to see Vee and Henry get some extended time in the game. That is the only real storyline to this game, can we get the bench more minutes by jumping on RU early.

I agree that it's extremely unlikely that the Hoyas don't win this game, but the supreme confidence of the above-posts is part of the reason it's at least remotely plausible. It's still a Big East team -- if mostly nominally --, and who's to say that a team with nothing to lose might turn it on for a big game against Georgetown and get lucky.
With that said, I think it's a good opportunity to give the bench some playtime -- and I expect to see Sims, Benimon, and Sanford getting some significant minutes if we can build up a good lead.

I don't think even our first half malaise in noon games can cause problems here - we may onpy be up by 10-12 at half instead of 20, but a comfortable game and some run for the bench. Actually the bigger concern should be slopinesss on both ends that could carry over to Monday. Hopefully we stay sharp and focused, and carry it to the Dome.

Pomeroy predicts a 21-point win.
Of course, he also rates them slightly better than DePaul, who we beat easily but hardly to the levels people are expecting.
On offense, pretty much everything is mediocre to bad. As usual, they really can't shoot.
On defense, they aren't all that bad except they give up a large amount of offensive rebounds, so we should have some lucky crashing the glass. If we play lethargic, that could disappear and Rutgers could turn into a decent defensive team.
Mike Rosario shoots a lot. Making them has been a problem. Echenique was their best player and he bailed. Now it might be Dane Miller or N'Diaye.

I'm sure Pomeroy predicted a narrower margin than 21 at Allstate. He gives us a 98%(!) chance of winning.

No letdown or looking ahead here, especially at home. Just take care of business. A comfortable win would let us get the bench some PT.
I know we are not Marquette, but them losing to DePaul shows that there are no nights off in the Big East.

I feel as though this would be a good time to give both Sims and Hollis the confidence they are going to need when we play Syracuse and Duke.

I don't typically care much about the score so long as its a W, but this would be a case where a blowout could be beneficial. On the road against a Nova or a Pitt, III doesn't have the luxury of extending the bench except out of necessity (ie foul trouble). A large working margin might open up some time for Benimon, Vee, and Henry to get some needed in-game reps, and for Hollis to build confidence (which appears to be lacking almost entirely at the moment), particularly in his shot.
