Just wanted to say how impressive Hollis has looked off the bench this year. I didnt know how versatile his game was. He has shown the ability to shoot the three ball as well as enough handle to take it to the rim. By years end he might be one of the most important players we have. With Hollis and some of the recruits coming in it seems that we will be solid for years to come! Just thought with some of the negative stuff printed on the boards from time to time it was good to recognize some good play!

I like him, but hopefully the matador defense (and the lunging at shot fakes) will improve quickly.

Rookie numbers in the league so far (got this from a NOVA Blog - not sure how accurate it is fwiw).. thought it may be interesting for the board. I'm hoping Hollis's numbers will improve as the season grows. I'm also looking forward to watching him blossom. Here's what they had to say about Hollis: So eager to work in Georgetown's system, Hollis Thompson enrolled a semester early (the spring of 2009) and practiced with the team. His contributions are needed as Coach Thompson enters this season with another light roster (eleven players) and another mid-season defection (Nikita Mescheriakov), Thompson's contributions will be to the Hoya's interior defense (see his blocks) and as another efficient option (though well down on the pecking order) on Georgetown's offense. vbtn.blogspot.com/2010/01/freshmen-of-ooc-ten-to-watch.html

Seriously? You bash the crud out of Henry all day long and then go out of your way to try and balance the karma with a positive post about Hollis? Did Henry molest your daughter or something? WTF? I am now finally and officially convinced that you don't even watch the games.
(for the record, I did not want to type "molest" there but I thought it would be nice to have a word instead of Edited)

Hollis is playing the DaJuan Summers role right now.
He's barely shooting -- but he has a good stroke and needs to be more aggressive. He had a really pretty baseline drive against DePaul that mirrored DaJuan except he neither stepped on the baseline or missed the bunny. He's not a good rebounder but he's active and I expect that he'll be a "good for a 3, bad if he has to play the 4" kind of guy. Just no size.
Defensively, he's been pretty bad. Bridge describes him well, and the numbers back him up -- the Thompson lineups have almost universally been poor D lineups this year. However, freshman perimeter players are generally routinely awful at D (even Clark, who, despite the accolades, participated in a whole slew of not so special D lineups).
That said, Hollis has strong defensive potential with some quick hands and he's long.

That said, Hollis has strong defensive potential with some quick hands and he's long. I actually think Hollis' defensive struggles may stem from overeagerness. Not just in the sense that he jumps at any opportunity to steal or block the ball - which unfortunately leads to his wild leaps out of position - but also in the sense that it's emblematic of the way in which he approaches the game. He is balls out and loves playing for this team. I think that comes across clearly from everything he does on the floor. But, like many freshmen, he's trying to play faster than he's capable and he needs to take a deep breath and S.L.O.W.I.T.D.O.W.N. As SF said, he's got the length and athleticism to be a great defender at the three, he just has to become more patient and trust his positioning and footwork over his effort or explosive athleticism.

I think that he may be the best athlete of the entire team. Hopefully his confidence continues to grow over the next 8 weeks so that he can provide steady contribution off the bench.

I agree that he's a weak rebounder for a 4 but he should be considering he's not a 4. He shouldn't ever be used as a 4 if we can help it. That said, I like that he drove to the basket the other day. Nice to see. I hope he starts taking more shots because I think boosting his confidence is huge. His defense needs work but I like what I've seen from the froshoverall. And I agree completely on the overeagerness as well. I think that's part of Henry's problem (though less so in the last outing) as well. They don't need to do too much. They just need to do their jobs. Doing what they already CAN do will get them on Sportscenter before trying to do stuff they shouldn't be doing will.

Seaweed what gives bro? You get mad when I criticize a hoya and call me out when I give a hoya props? I dont get it. I call it the way I see it, I felt that his contribution and potential should be recognized. He obviously has benefited from being in the system that extra few months.
How can you say I dont watch the games, Ive been watching every televised hoya game in the NY/CT market since I was in 5th grade(1988). It seems like your the only one that has a problem with me saying how good Hollis can be..

I'll be honest when I opened this thread I expect this to be a thread bashing Hollis for not scoring more. I totally expected that people would be complaining about his lack of scoring despite having been in the system for a semester already. I'm glad to see that people appreciate what he's doing.

What's interesting about Hollis, Henry, Clark and Julian is that, prior to the season, the consensus of this board was the starting five would be Chris, Austin, Hollis, Henry and Greg. Guess coach is a bit smarter than we are.

HSB... I can sort of do that if you like. But only because the kid has such a nice stroke that I'd like to see him take more shots not because I'm disappointed in his current production.

By the time the regular season is over, Hollis and friends will be ready. They have no choice.
By Mid-Feb. Hollis will be too tired to lunge.
They will all play.

If we had a thread about Julian it would have to reference him being a doctor.
