Why not? Especially when TTech was obligated to pay Leach an additional $800K bonus if he was the coach as of 12/31/09.

Not just the money, but he needs to file a lawsuit if he wants to coach anywhere else ever again.
Actually, wouldn't surprise me at all if he sues not just for what is owed him, but for future earnings as well.

So, is the James family trying to see how many D-1 football programs in Texas they can bring down? Is Mike Sherman a distant cousin?

More and more of this sounds like Leach will be in good stead when this gets to court: Statement from head football trainer Adam Pincock, dated Dec. 31: “...Normally, injured players are asked to perform exercises, however Adam could not participate in these drills, and was originally asked to walk around the field during practice. Adam showed up to practice in street clothes, no team gear, and dark sunglasses. Adam walked about 40 to 50 yards, very slowly and with a non-caring attitude. Coach Leach noticed Adam’s poor effort and non-team attire, and asked that Adam be placed in a location where sunlight could not bother him as he was wearing sunglasses. Two trainers, including myself, monitored Adam at all times. I instructed Adam to stay in the garage and out of the sun, so the light would not worsen his condition. While in the garage, Adam was walking around, eating ice, sitting on the ground, and, at one point, sleeping; at no point was there any enforcement to make Adam stand up. Adam was checked by doctors every day." www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/spt/colleges/texastech/stories/010209dnspotechstatements.3782a3a5.html

I'm not doubting that Adam's attitude stunk, but Coach Leach's handling of the situation appears to have been completely inappropriate.

The kid showed up out of uniform (in this case, team gear), which every other injured player had to wear to practice and was disrupting the practice. He was sent to time out for acting like a clown, not for being injured. And he was under the supervision of trainers the whole time.

Injured players are required to dress at least in a jersey---and they have to do something. If he didn't want to do anything--then he go sleep in the shed.
Craig James is a female dog and his kid is worse.

Leach is gone.....Tx Tech can do the smart thing by hiring Kevin Sumlin from UHouston. Outstanding young coach.

And you've got to play Texas and Oklahoma every year, to say nothing of having to play an A&M team with deep-pocketed boosters and an OSU team that is trying to buy the Big XII.

The more we learn about the story, the less Adam James and his so-called "helicopter dad" got Leach fired. This was about Leach versus the TT administration, as the below link indicates. Note the link below which the chancellor writes "don't share any of these [e-mails] with anyone." (Someone better tell Kent Hance about the Internet...) www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/img/12-09/1231leachblack.pdf

I still stand by my belief that Coach Leach handled the situation inappropriately - regardless of Adam James and his father's attitude. If a kid has a concussion and heart issues, he shouldn't be on the practice field period. It is ridiculous that Coach Leach had injured players walk around the field in team gear - what is the point of that? A kid with a concussion should be resting or receiving medical care - not walking around a field in team gear. Apparently, James wasn't the only kid on the team that felt that Coach Leach was nutso: sports.espn.go.com/dallas/news/story?id=4792320

I haven't seen reports of heart problems. You seem to be muddying the situation. I have no problem with having the kid participate as much as he can and making him be part of the team. I don't think anyone is saying his health was put in peril at all.

Injured players still attend practices at every level so they can at least watch what the team is doing / remain a part of the team.

KCHoya - there were reports that James had an accelerated heart rate in addition to a concussion. If these reports were wrong, I stand corrected. TBird - I did play sports in high school - admittedly not football. While we did attend practice when injured, at least my hockey team handled concussions differently. If you had a concussion [depending on your post-concussion syndrome symptoms] you were not expected to attend practice - let alone attend practice in "team gear" or skate around the ice a few times while everyone was practicing. There are injuries that allow limited participation and there are injuries that allow for NO participation. I put concussions in the latter category.

If you're healthy enough to walk around campus and go to classes, I think you can dress for practice and watch your teammates from the sideline.

Tubberville to Tech is an upgrade for Red Raider fans. He'll surpass Oklahoma soon simply by installing an actual defense in Lubbock.
