The reports on Henry last summer were of a vastly improved player during Kenner League games. He was described as still being inconsistent, but at the same time notably improved over last year. Thus far, both his play and his playing time do not reflect the improvement. I still see great potential and the possibility of Simms being a major contributor this year. However, a question for those who attend Kenner League games: do the teams attempt to run anything that resembles the Princeton offense or is it pretty much just AAU-type ball with players going up and down the court in an uptempo style of play?

The latter, it's pretty much just pickup style basketball with a lot of 1-on-1. Sims did a good job getting up and down the floor and looking more comfortable with the ball in his hands around the hoop but that is outside of a system and with defense much less of a priority to the majority of guys playing.

Give it some time we've only really seen him in one game. I think henry will show that improvement as the year goes on.

Plus, I would say that versus Tulane he looked really active and showed some positive things. Not so much on O as really getting after boards and being active.

i wouldn't expect too much from Sims.
I think Clark and Vaughn will improve this year, but Sims will be what he was last year, rather limited.
imo, Macklin showed more "promise" at the same stage of his career as Sims has thus far.
i really don't see much in Sims at all. just a guy that runs up and down the court for the most part. seems more like a 4-year project more than anything. nothing wrong with that. thats why you have 4 years of eligibility. it may take until his 4th year to make significant contributions with regard to his development as a ball player.

I am still hopeful that we will see his minutes increase as the year progresses. I thought he was known for a good medium range shooting touch. Perhaps if he can earn more minutes with defense, rebounding and hustle, he will be able to find a niche in the offense. We could use that.

So Sims ended the season in March. Kenner League is in July. Any reports of a player "improving" between the end of a season and Kenner League are always bogus. They are separated by a few months and are totally different. We'll see about Henry and the rest of this team in January when they play against the Big East who knows them, scouts them and is much more competitive. Temple, Butler and Washington are the preseason.

I know that this is a fan message board and so this is the nature of the beast, but making sweeping proclamations about this team and the players on it after 3 games is a fool's game

Henry appears to love hanging at the three point line. I get the feeling that he is afraid to bang at all down low. He does cut to the basket to get a pass for a dunk and sometoimes to follow up someone's miss with a put back. I thought he would start over Julian, but Julian appears to have earned the starting spot for now. 3 can change anytime and move Henry in and Julina out.

This is true but you might get some feel about JTIII's assessment of each player's readiness for action. So far he has shown a strong tendency to use Julian over Henry and, also, to express lots of confidence in Jason, leading to a three-guard lineup.

Agree with easyed. The issue is not what "fans" think of Sims play after 3 games. The issue is why after many preseason compliments, JT III is giving him fairly limited playing time. Is it matchups, is it that his play has been less than expected after the preseason practices, or is it that Vaughn has really outplayed him--or some combination of the above. My concern is that like Macklin, he is not going to improve on the bench. He may never improve but now is the time to put him out there when the competition is non-conference.

I think Sims needs to play more than 10 minutes a game ahead of the Big East schedule.
I was surprised coach only played him 10 minutes against Savannah St. The team has two guys who can play the 4 or 5 spots. Henry will be counted on this season, but you can't expect him to be ready if you only play him 10 minutes against the early season lightweights.
His game and physique have improved since last season. He clearly has potential to help on the glass. He's definitely showed signs of being an excellent passer though it hasn't translated in the first few games. Clearly, that can be a real asset on this team and would complement Monroe.
I think the demands of the offense can at times limit the development of some frontcourt players. I appreciate the potential of a three guard line-up, but the track record of that line-up at Georgetown is mixed at best. It requires excellent defense and rebounding and I don't think we apply enough pressure and/ or have the depth to completely offset being undersized on the glass.
He struggled defending the perimeter against Temple. In fairness, I think some of those man-to-man off the ball defensive struggles fall on the coach's shoulders. One solution could be to play some zone when Henry is in the game. I think we saw that applied at Tulane.

We'll know what we have by the end of January. If things are going to come together for the team, that's usually when it takes place.

I really think that we will see Sims true value when we have a zone (ie Cuse) to break. When he is in with Greg he usually prefers playing the high post/ perimeter (the latter which I do not like but have accepted that it is part of our offense).

It is obvious that despite his athleticism, he has not shown much in practice( or in games) or he would be getting more PT. We sure do need more rebounding but he hasn't delivered. Our lack of interior rebounding and defense will be our biggest weakness in the BE
