Hoya Tex,
forget the numbers....making the league is all about having an nba skill...Jeremiah has that...he plays defense on an nba level right now...right this second...you don't need numbers for that. He's 6-5 and a true point guard....that's nba size...he's got nba speed and athleticism. If he can improve his handle and his jumper, he absolutely has a chance. Spitting numbers, in jeremiah's case, means very little. Also, making the league is about who you know...ummmmmm, his father coaches one of the two best teams in the league, want to wager that he's going to get at least a chance at the league? Heck, rodney billups, a division II player at denver, made a summer league roster because of Chauncey...Zach Marbury, whom I and a lot of people i know, used to destroy in high school and college, made the knicks summer league roster three times because of steph.

"True point guard"?!? He can't f---ing dribble or pass the ball! He could always dribble. In fact, he might have been our most effective player at breaking the press. However, his passing was indeed atrocious, along with his shooting. I can't believe we're still talking about this. He's gone, end of story, move on.

Our most effective press-breaker would be someone who just puts his head down and runs down the court rather than passing laterally sideline to sideline for 8.5 seconds. Our press break is atrocious. I cannot think of a single instance where he took on a defender, though. Even Wallace towards the end was breaking down some defenders off the dribble. If Rivers ever had the ability to move effectively w/ the ball, he never really showed it, at least in any way other than being the best out of a very bad group of press-breakers.

It's very hard to forget the numbers. The NBA is absolutely a numbers game.
Making a summer league is one thing, however taking one of 12 spots on an often levered team with a multi-million $ payroll is a whole different thing.
A 6-5 guard who can play perimeter D, but doesn't grab rebounds, doesn't generate assists, and doesn't score points won't cut it. If he we're 6-9, could guard a small or power forward and grab 10 boards a game, that would be a different story. Unless Dad is personally cutting a check for junior, the owners aint paying up for this. Summer league is a different story though . . . but that doesn't really count.
On the positive side, Jeremiah will probably love his forthcoming experiences in Eastern Europe.

I just look at some of the talented guys recently from GU alone who never really made it in the NBA, or haven't yet. Ewing Jr., anyone? The name Braswell ring a bell? You could throw Bowman in this list too. Heck, Wallace was a four year starter at guard during one of our most successful stretches as a team in a long time.
Rivers is an average college player, a guy who splits time at his position and helps your team to some wins from time to time. There's nothing wrong with that, but it's not NBA material.

OK - this is really getting silly now. I'm sure he's a nice kid and I wish him all the luck in the world in Indiana - but please don't mention Rivers in the same sentence with David Wingate.

You guys are talking about the NBA right? The one where they play basketball? And somehow within that conversation Jeremiah's name came up? How the heck did that happen? I'm really confused now. Sapp=Scotland, PE Jr.=NBDL on a good day, DS=second rounder not getting any time and Rivers=NBA? Put down the pipes folks. There are treatment options.

Some of you don't seem to understand the meaning of the word potential. Look it up and then get back to me.

Shoot, using these arguments I have a shot for the league. I'm 6'1" and can box out REALLY well. Yes, I may not be able to shoot outside of 10 feet, have probably a 24 inch vert, and am not what you would consider blazing, but who the heck cares? I'm 6'1" and can box out!!!! When do I get my contract?

Since the subject is an Indiana Hoosier and we've pretty much flogged this topic as far as it will go I am moving this to Pro & College Sports so we can concentrate on HOYA basketball now that the season is less than two weeks away.
