story just came across the wire. Villanova hung on at #25. Maryland back in at 22, and Charlotte ranked for first time in six years.
We got 48 votes, good for a #27 ranking.

The poll itself hasn't crossed yet, so no word on how many votes we got I was hoping the team would get the nod this week as it would have been nice to be ranked for at least one week during the season. Granted, as another post mentioned, if we win both games this week that should put us over the top; however, that's a big "if", considering the matchups (ND with its back somewhat against the wall playing on their homecourt; and St. Johns with really nothing to lose at MSG).

Good news. No pressure of having to stay perfect in order to stay in the Top 25.
That makes sense, right?

these polls are lunacy. our RPI is 23 and that's what I'm focusing on for now...

I'm less worried about being ranked than just completely dumbfounded by the fact that Villanova is ranked #25 and we're left out.
Villanova is 5-5 in the big east and WE FREAKING beat them @ Nova. It's insane. Nova has one good win this year and hasn't won a game on the road.
I'm sick and tired of these guys getting all this love for one win. It just goes to show you that the people who vote for these things are idiots.

We'd be ranked 23rd under the old RPI formula, and some of the RPI sites haven't made the switch this year.

You can't even use the "we have more losses than anyone else in the polls" argument. I count 5 teams with 6 losses and 1 with 7 (MD).
At the end of the day I could care less about rankings. It just makes me laugh to look at the inconsistencies and lack or research or common sense that voters use.
I'm less worried about being in there instead of Nova than the fact they are still there.

It does matter...it gets you on sportscenter, the local news, score updates, national coverage, increased TV exposure.

This is a good thing. Villanova #25? Did the writers even HEAR about the thrashing dished out by the Cuse? Maryland #21 or 22 or whatever the heck they were? Sheer lunacy. Like I said, that's fine. For all of you Hoya Ballers out there reading this -- be ticked off by this because this is disrespect. Maryland?!?!? Maryland is ranked. No ACC bias around here!Go out to South Bend, IN were they're more worried about Charlie Weis than Chris Thomas and lay the smack down on the Irish. After you beat the Irish by 20, then let the writers continue to talk about us being the "seventh" team from the Big East. I'm sorry, the "seventh" team is either ND or Pitt. But it is not your Georgetown Hoyas Men's Basketball Team!!!!! As for Maryland, congrats for tying Big East doormat Miami of Florida in the ACC standings.

Florida at "26" They lost this week? They also beat Tenn at Tenn, but Tenn isn't a top 25 team, so who cares. I don't get that. As for Maryland at 22, its the best example of ACC bias I can remember in a long time. They have an RPI of 43, are only 6-5 in conference. Have more losses than anyone else in the top 25, are 2-2 in their last four games, including a bad loss to Clemson, and a gimme win at home against VTech. You can make an argument for them at 25, based on the Duke win, but Duke is a top ten team, not the #1 team, and the win was at Maryland. To put them above Charlotte and Cincinnati does not make sense. I don't even think it makes sense to put them above Nova. Link at www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3690076/

i'll take the 27 ranking..close enough for committee to notice yet not yet in top 25. Not only do top 25 teams have a target on their back but it also mounts the pressue felt by the teams to win or lose the "prestigious" top 25 ranking..

Maryland beat duke twice...that would be the equivalent of us beating UConn twice - they deserve to be ranked. as for some of the other stuff - it never ceases to amaze me how much respect charlotte gets, maybe not with ranking, but with ncaa berths - unbiased my ass - charlotte's AD is head of the selection committee - but for anyone that says rankings don't matter, that is crap...they do matter - i agree with cambridge on all those counts - plus it just shows a continued lack of respect for the resurgence of our program - like Lunardi says, everyone keeps expecting us to fade - it is total crap and i am tired of it - channeling craig esherick

Maryland beat duke twice...that would be the equivalent of us beating UConn twice - they deserve to be ranked. That's an odd way to look at it. Why only look at wins and not losses? Maryland has beaten Duke twice, but they have lost to Clemson, NC State, and Miami. Despite that I can buy them at 25 (barely), but not 22.
