It's sad though that a real Bruin wasn't able to do that. Maybe they should trade for Kane this offseason.
Anyways, a shootout is a horrible, horrible way to decide what was essentially a single-game playoff between the Flyers and Rangers. But it's so fun to watch and so dramatic. It makes excellent TV, and of course it's infinitely more satisfying than a tie and subsequent statistical tiebreaker (which the Flyers would have won anyways).
So the Caps face the Habs. I prefer the Habs to Lundqvist and the Rangers, but the Habs have given the Caps plenty of trouble this season. Hopefully the Caps can stay hot and dispatch with them cleanly.

Because it looks as if everyone is just looking for reasons why Ovie is NOT the MVP, Im hoping it goes to Sedin. Not because I think he deserves it but just because Crosby doesnt, naturally. Just irritates me that if Ovie had played those 10 other games, or even 8 of them, there would be no discussion because he would have 120 points and close to 60 goals. This was his best season yet but it was cut short at the expense of the fans. Only one thing will wipe the bitter taste out of my mouth and that doest get awarded till june.
And Green wont get Norris despite being the best. cie la vie (or how ever it is spelled)

and i guess just one other thing, loved Bruce giving the forth line guys a shot in the shoot out today. If you missed it, the shoot out order for the Caps went Gordon, Bradley, Steckel. That is a grand total of 19 goals for the caps in the shoot out!
Earlier in the week Bruce was asked about going for personal awards (ovie-richard, semin-40 gs) in these past few games, He replied "The only goal that counts is already done: Brads got 10 goals" Got to love Bruce.

Couple of thoughts:
1. Yes, it was nice of Bruce to give the grinders a shot in the shootout, since the game meant nothing. On the other hand, kind of a tough spot to put them in. How many collective attempts do they have between them?
2. I think the Caps lucked out with the Rangers loss (or would the Rangers have been 7 if they had won? I'm not sure). Don't get me wrong. I'd expect the Caps to win the first round series no matter who they played, NY, Philly, Montreal or Boston. But I think the Rangers were a very dangerous team and would have made for a much tougher first round for either NJ or Washington. I think Caps and Devils will make quick work of the Habs and Flyers.
3. Agree with Stig. Horrible, horrible way to decide the final playoff spot. On the other hand (again), one game doesn't decide it, 82 games does.
4. I am slightly encouraged with the way the Bruins have entered the playoffs. They played very well their last three games when they needed it & I like the matchup with Buffalo (or at least I would if Boston wasn't so banged up on D)......everywhere except in net. Still, the Bruins usually do a little better against Miller than they have against Brodeur, so this is the best spot they could've hoped for. Nothing like a division rivalry in the first round. Hopefully Boston can turn the tables from when they played Buffalo as the favorites in years past.

And Green wont get Norris despite being the best. cie la vie (or how ever it is spelled) C'est la vie. Ce is essentially "it" or "that". est is the third person singular of the verb "to be" When you have Ce and est next to each other, they combine into "c'est". la vie is "life". Let's go Flyers (or, failing that, Caps)!

How many collective attempts do they have between them? I'm sure they have plenty of attempts in practice. A lot of teams end practice with a shootout tournament, so it's not like they've never done a shootout before.

Couldnt see from where i was sitting in VC, but apparently the caps players and coaches were joking around about it on the bench. I think they were all in on the joke. But it does kind of make a mockery of the whole situation- i would have kind of like to see them at least try to win the final game of the season.

Yeah, I've heard Shaq's a good free throw shooter in practice too. He was rewarding his grinders. I get it, that's very cool and I have no problem with it. Just noting that they probably didn't stand much of a chance. (Thomas did have to make one good save, but the other shot was way off).

For sure, I wasn't implying that Boudreau put them out there because they were the best at shootouts. It was obviously just for fun, for those guys and for the rest of the players. I was just pointing out that they all had shootout experience, even if they're not any good at them!

Also two years ago Gordon was getting regular minutes as the SECOND line center I dont know if that means he might have the skills to be in a shoot out or that two years ago the caps were still a very terrible team despite charging in to the play offs. Im going with the latter

Some tough travel schedules shaping up out West - - really only brutal for Detroit and Phoenix in Round 1. But some potential tough travel schedules in Round 2, as well, depending on how things go in the first round. Makes it harder on the West winner come late May/early June, but them's the breaks I guess. At least I get to watch EVERY Pens-Sens game on Vs.

Oh, and we'll get to see if Halak earns (or not) big RFA dollars. I believe he'll only have one round (5 games) to prove his playoff credentials to potential off-season suitors.

About the whole one round thing. About the Pens-Sens Vs thing, it sucks. I wish i could watch NJ-PHI, much more compelling. They could at least show half of each- like games 1 and 2 of pens and 3 and 4 of NJ, not half of each game (though that would be cool). Out west im hoping, for the sake of the franchises, that both Phoenix and Nashville advance. Looks like they will both have a tough time. I also think the Hawks will be done in round two with their goaltending. I think the Canucks come out of the west.

#2 ( and #17) pick in the draft for the Bruins.
Hall or Seguin. Seguin or Hall. I don't really know who is better, so I guess I'm happy with either.
Time for that Kessel trade to start payin' off!

Considering the fact that they basically ruined their season before it started with that trade, it had better pay off! The Bruins got a lot in return in that trade, but no team in the league needed an extra scorer like Kessel more than the Bruins needed one this season. On the flip side, I'm sure the Leafs would LOVE to have that 2nd pick right now. Burke's trade deadline binge made it clear that the Leafs want to be good sooner rather than later, so the trade makes a bit more sense than it did at the beginning of the season. However, it never looks good when another team has your top-5 pick in the draft.

There are maybe three to five players in the game right now who warrant a trade for two first rounders and a second. Kessel is not one of them. Two years from now the Bruins will be good and the Leafs will still suck.

Great night of hockey tonight!
I only got a chance to watch the late games, but both were great. Massive kudos to the Phoenix fans for proving that they do indeed exist. That atmosphere looked like a Stanley Cup finals game, not the first game in the first round. Of course, it helps that they got to watch a great game.
Meanwhile, Colorado earns a gritty win against San Jose. How many people bet on Phoenix being the only higher seed to win tonight?

I can't believe the start of the Hawks-Preds series is because the flippin' Harlem Globetrotters are at the UC on Thursday. Has *shudder* Dollar Bill come back from beyond?

Figured you Caps fans would appreciate this: dailycaller.com/2010/04/15/alex-ovechkin%E2%80%99s-unbeatable-dominance-of-the-montreal-canadiens/I still really don't understand the obsession with Crosby by many, including this author, but aside from that, it's a nice little Ovie highlight reel in advance of the opening game of Caps-Habs. (P.S. - Don't let the headline fool you; it's not a hit piece, no pun intended) (P.P.S. - I was going to suggest the Sharks change their name to "Atlanta Braves," but then I remembered that they Braves actually won a World Series.)
