Sorry, can't go with you there. I have a whole lot less of a problem with a guy trying to make a play to get you back into field goal range after some ridiculous play-calling and an unforgiveable penalty knocked you out of it. And the careless fumbles were much worse. That's the dumbest post I've ever seen, you knucklehead. Have you ever watched a football game? Are you blind? Are you a Favre suck up? Get a life. [scarcasm].

I don't see a problem with that quote. Exactly how many yards did they need? 3? 5? 9? You act like there's a definite answer. Well, Ryan Longwell is 8/8 over the last two seasons from 50+, and you're in a dome (do I expect Favre or Brad Childress to know Ryan Longwell's range? Not really, but in theory someone should be aware of this). The interception was snapped from the 38. So you'd like 5 yards if you can get it, which Favre could have gotten close to on his feet. Under no circumstances should you be throwing 15 yards downfield against your body, especially not in that situation.

If nothing is there, do you throw it away knowing you're outside of Longwell's range, or do you try to make a play? Maybe he could have run and picked up five yards - I couldn't tell.

You run to get the 4-5 you can, which makes a 50-52 yard field goal (depends on how far the Vikings snap on a long field goal -- most do 8 because field goals are flatter). If you snap from the opponent's 48, that throw should be made. If it's from their 38, you run for the 5 yards to get your kicker close. Favre made it sound like he had no idea where he had to go.

Okay Favre "defenders" and those who talk of him as the "greatest" and then don't say a damn word when the piece of dog crap plays as everyone who detests and actually watches him play knows he'll do, in the situation at end of game where you are inside the 40 yard line, and have a timeout left, do you:
A. Throw the ball away B. Run to get as many yards possible--which you can call TO or run out of bounds C. Roll out to your right and throw late over the middle
*--the QB with the ball is a guy lauded as one of the top 5 QB's ever and by some the greatest of all time.
I forgot to add this option:
D. ignore whatever he does--and place blame on Peterson's fumbles--which only 1 was lost to Saints--and that one was Favre's fault as much as Peterson's for not sticking the ball in his gut. Yet Favre throws 2 crucial picks and involved in fumble and each were in/near scoring opportunity.

Yet Favre throws 2 crucial picks and involved in fumble and each were in/near scoring opportunity. The correct answer is B. But Favre doesn't run. Ever. That's why he gets so many penalties for illegal forward passes (That's a statement of fact--I'm not trying to make excuses for him--he just never runs.) The Vikings lost b/c they couldn't hold onto the goddamn ball, Childress decided to settle for a 51 yard FG (and remember, the Vikings ran 30 seconds off the clock--they had ample time to try and pick up 10-20 more yards), they somehow managed to commit the worst penalty in the history of the NFL (out of a timeout!) and then Favre continued his poor decision making by not running (which he doesn't do) and making a ridiculously stupid throw.

While it should be pretty clear that I'm no supporter of Favre, it does seem that the 12 men in the huddle penalty is getting lost somewhat amidst all of the Favre criticism. If not the worst penalty in league history (who knows, really), I would have to guess that it ranks somewhere in the top 10. And the buck stops with Childress on that baby. Truly inexcusable.

Per the 'highly esteemed' Peter KingThe confusion of the 12th man: I hear, reliably, that the reason Vikings fullback Naufahu Tahi was on the field for the infamous 12-men-in-the-huddle penalty is because of confusion on the Minnesota sidelines -- and not because Tahi himself thought he should have been in the game. Last week, the Vikings changed the personnel group that was supposed to be in the game on the ill-fated play they called with 19 seconds left -- switching from one tight end and a fullback to two tight ends. So when the play was called, Tahi stayed on the sidelines until a coach -- I don't know which one -- told him to go into the game. He went and was the 12th man in the huddle. The Vikes got penalized five yards for having the extra man in the huddle, moving the ball out of Ryan Longwell's field-goal range. On the next play, Brett Favre threw the interception that no Vikings fan will ever forget.

Imagine playing an entire football season, over forty, with Peter King's tongue in your ass.
