Figured we needed this as the preseason has started. And also because I can't stop laughing at the fact that the Eagles signed Michael Vick.

Did Michael Vick sign with the Eagles? I must have missed that.

It is impossible to overestimate the potential damage the Steelers suffered last night with the loss of Polamalu. They still have an incredibly talented defense, but he is the heart and soul of that defense (plus, you saw what Kerry Collins was able to do with him not in the game). I hate the Steelers with the fire of 1,000 suns, but Troy Polamalu is one of my favorite players in the game (Hines Ward too). It is a crime that he has not won a Defensive Player of the Year award in his career...not that he's better than Ed Reed, mind you. Even though it will benefit my Murdering Linebackers to have him out for longer, I hope he is out only for a couple of weeks.

What are everyone's predictions for the upcoming season? No one seems to be giving the defending NFC champion much love. While the Steelers are on the short list of Super Bowl contenders, the consensus is that the Cardinals were a fluke.
On the way to work this morning, I heard Tim Brando interviewing a guest who covers the NFL. He is really sold on the NFC north. He said that it's almost a foregone conclusion that the NFC representative will come from that division. In fact he said he wouldn't be surprised to see 3 teams from that division make the playoffs -- Bears, Packers and Vikings.
I don't know about that. I think the Giants and Eagles might have something to say about that. For that matter, the Falcons and Saints are in the mix as well.
Oh well, here are my predictions:
AFC
Patriots Steelers Colts Chargers
Ravens, Titans (wild card)
(I think the Dolphins are in the mix as well, but their schedule is just too brutal)
NFC
Giants Vikings Falcons Cardinals
Packers, Eagles (wild cards)
And Miami it will be (ugh, can we handle anymore Favre-Love ...) Vikings over the Patriots
On Edit: I really think it will be a rematch from a couple of years back between the Giants and Patriots. But if Minnesota can get homefield advantage, then I would like their chances against the Giants.
Of course, it's a long season ...

The AFC seems like a lock as to who the top (playoff) teams are.
But I guarantee that at least one and maybe up to three of those teams will not be there at the end of the season.
The only reason I believe this is because it happens every year.
Teams most likely not to live up to their pre-season status: Colts, Chargers, and (fingers crossed that I am wrong) Ravens.
I would have said Titans, but they looked pretty darn good last night on the road against a really really good team.
The NFC is less certain, but you can bet your ass someone who you never thought would contend will be in the mix there too. Just hope it's not the Redskins (I don't see how it can be).

Sports Guy has Redskins as a wild card, which means you are almost certainly correct, Boz. I, on the other hand, hope that he is correct.

Jake Delhomme has thrown a total of 9 interceptions in his past 2 real games.
Ummm yeah, Carolina probably should have drafted a qb.

A ridiculous end to the Denver-Cincy game with Gus Johnson on the play-by-play reminds me why I love sports.

A ridiculous end to the Denver-Cincy game with Gus Johnson on the play-by-play reminds me why I love sports. Saw that one live. 87 yards on a tipped ball. May be the luckiest play I've ever seen. And watched it on the new NFL Red Zone channel (734 on Comcast) which may well be the greatest thing ever.

You know what? The segment that Tony Dungy is doing for the NBC pregame show is actually insightful and interesting. Makes having to listen to Olbermann almost tolerable

I'm a big Brandon Stokley fan, so this was a good day indeed. The big bonus is that he gets time in the press conference (you can watch pieces on NFL.com). His Cajun accent is ridiculous.
Also, whoever approved the whole offseason five-year, $42.5 million deal that includes $20 million in guaranteed money deserves this year's Matt Millen award.

A dislocated wrist is a season-ending injury for a linebacker? Really? www.baltimoresun.com/sports/ravens/bal-brian-urlacher-0914,0,2673380.story Don't get me wrong, I'm not questioning Urlacher's toughness or anything like that. Just seems like kind of a minor thing to be out for the whole season. But he's having surgery, I guess, so maybe it's more serious than it sounds. Bad news for the Bears.

Also.....Joe Flacco: Superstar! *cough* KC Chiefs Defense *cough* I'm sure a lot of people who follow betting lines were happy when the Ravens scored that late TD.

What a perfect sh*tstorm the Eagles are flying into. Kolb will stink out the joint in week two forcing McNabb to rush back for game 3 and struggle with DogKiller waiting in the wings. By the second quarter, the mouth-breathers at the Linc will be howling like Mike's former Vicktims.

You don't think they'd start Vick in game 3 over Kolb or an injured McNabb (assuming Kolb stinks next week)? 2. Game 3 is at home against the Chiefs, so it probably doesn't matter who they start.

Kind of like assuming the sun will rise in the east off yesterday and his woeful Baltimore performance last year. As for starting Vick, even better. McNabb will sh@t his pants. Vick stinks too and they're screwed. Vick plays well and 5 has a colossal hissy fit. Either way, year 50 of Eagle futility is virtually insured.

The Eagles signed Jeff Garcia today. Good move under the circumstances.
