I played pickup briefly yesterday with Benimon, Vee, and Hollis. In addition, the whole team (haven't seen Julian yet) is around campus with Austin looking a lot better and most if not all of them having added some muscle.
Vee is quick and will surprise people with his handles.
Hollis is lanky and can play both inside and outside. He and Jerelle were challenging each other in the post.
Benimon is big and does like to control the paint. He has the athleticism to have an impact rebounding and on defense, but he may have bulked up a bit too much as of now.
Regardless, the incoming class looks good and should be a nice addition to the team.

A bulked up Benimon is good, because he will need to give the team about 5 minutes of interior depth this season.

Yea, I thought there was some sort of rule banning positivity. Shouldn't this thread be getting locked soon? Wouldn't want everyone going around thinking it was ok to have some hope, and that maybe Gtown basketball isn't doomed as we know it.

Good report...I agree about Vee...he looked better than advertised when I saw him as well.
Good to see that Benimon has bulked up..definitely won't hurt him in the big east

It's the Big East. We need all the bigs for the fouls in the paint. Glad to hear that Benimon has some muscle tone. Anyone seen any bulk added to Henry's frame?

Good to see that Benimon has bulked up..definitely won't hurt him in the big east Sanford is a guy I've always liked--so guess I don't understand the "better then advertised" stuff? He's a kid that just stayed away from AAU play--and when you do that--you get lost in the shuffle where many guys are overhyped and have no clue how to play and just continue to show no improvement.

I know all about the over-hyped kids and the ranking bs from other sports as well. Obviously there was a reason for that. Never questioned his ability. From all accounts, I was psyched to get him. What I meant was that he was described on here as a good shooter with a good floater in the lane. From the tapes I saw I didn't get to see much bounciness in his game. Not much was talked about athletically or having an overly good handle. When I saw him I was very happy with what I saw that's all..guess I just phrased it poorly

Having played with with these guys, do you see any of them having a great impact on the upcoming season. I know Hollis is highly touted, so how do you see his skill set fitting in with the vets?... what were some of the player's greatest areas for improvement? Thanks Long time lurky, first time poster... look forward to being on here more

Vee's flat top is gone. I was really hoping he would bring it to the team, so I'll shed a tear now that it's gone.
As for an immediate impact, Hollis will definitely surprise and get good minutes. I see Benimon as a practice guy who will see the floor only if two of the bigs have foul trouble. He is good, but not polished enough to have a huge impact this season. I have no idea how Vee will play in games, even though he'll be Wright's backup and see 5-10 minutes a game. He has the ability to be a smart passer and make the right decisions. However, if the reports are right and he likes the floated like JWall did and Chris does, it may take some time for him to settle into the offense and understand his roll. He was Mr. Kentucky, so he can play and should be a nice #4 guard for us.

Vee's flat top is gone. I was really hoping he would bring it to the team, so I'll shed a tear now that it's gone. That's sad. This is worse than when Jeff shed his dreds -- at least we got a year of those. I may be repeating myself, but I'm hoping Benimon as a frosh can be somewhere near Amadou Kilkenny-Diaw as a senior in terms of contributing. The bigges thing for me is for someone to have a good enough handle to back up Chris. If that's Vee, fantastic. If that's Jason with a much improved handle, that's also fantastic. Putting the ball into a poor ballhandler's hands for seven or so minutes every game cost us at least one game last year.
