Yeah I agree this is a good x's and o's hire but where is our recruiting guru like broadus was....the one we had brought in to my knowledge hasn't exactly been holding it down for us...

That was fast. Sounds like a great fit, and I'm not worried about his recruiting prowess. Seems like JTIII is out there for most of our recruiting anyway (which is why some of our top recruits signed in the first place, so I wouldn't want to mess with a working formula). A team absolutely needs a recruiter out there and cannot rely on a head coach to do the heavy lifting. Coach Thompson might close the deals but he can't be (or shouldn't) spending the 12-14 hours a day on the trail that an assistant can do. This year's class of Sanford and Benimon illustrates what can happen with an interruption in recruiting. And did anyone find this quote in the Post article a little peculiar: "Brennan fills the vacancy created by the departure of Robert Burke, who was dismissed in the spring." Well, if so, why did it take so long to report on it? This year's class also has a pretty decent player from out west if you remember (before he reclassified), so its not some complete disaster. We were also stuck filling a couple slots that were unexpectedly opened in the off season. Did you expect to have a group of 4 and 5 star recruits on standby to fill the unanticipated void at the last minute? Has having some big gun assistant coach recruiting specialist only led to great success stories, in contrast to Sanford and Benimon? You've already written off two recruits who have not even started their collegiate careers. We've had coaches who were supposedly great recruiters but still ended up with several transfers a year, most leaving while publicly slighting the program following disappointing stints at GU.

Good guy, good coach, and good hire. He has a lot of Sydney Johnson's tangibles and intangibles.
JT3 has a very good relationship with Brennan and has a lot of trust in him. Brennan will not be one of those self serving assistant coaches that talks too much and is always trying to get recruiting publicity for himself in the media... That is a sure/quick way to get fired as an assistant coach at GU.

I knew Mike Brennan in high school. He went to St. Peter's in Jersey City. Had an incredible handle. Played professionally in Europe and for the Irish National Team. Has dual citizenship, I believe.
A friend of mine playes with him at Princeton. I know nothing about him as a coach other than that he is Jesuit-trained, too. So that counts for something.

Is it possible you've confused Mike Brennans? The former Princeton assistant played at Elizabeth. He was on the state championship team that also featured future Seton Hall center Luther Wright. www.nytimes.com/1990/02/20/nyregion/our-towns-win-team-win-that-is-to-say-don-t-dare-lose.htmlJust double-checked a media guide from when Brennan was a junior in college and it does not say anything about St. Peter's.

It's possible that both of you are correct. In the article it says that both Luther Wright and Mike Brennan transferred into Elizabeth.

Is this the same Mike Brennan who was President of the Yard in 1966-1967?

Maybe we should just join the Ivy League.
Does not feel very innovative to this Hoya.

Jon is right. Brennan went to Elizabeth. He started at St. Peter's. I totally forgot about the transfer. He used to be able to run full speed and dribble through his legs. Amazing stuff.
Same guy though.

That's the point...the wailing. desolate crying from the desert...from the Press, Fans, Alumni, and other BE students-of-the-game...Greg WILL NOT get measurably better standing around at the top of the key...waltzing in III's East-West perimeter offense while the North-South guys clean our clock. It's dumb. It's not fair to Monroe. He'll never be fulfilled playing in and with the Ivy League mentality. We have no offense that can match-up to the current BE talent pool. Load the schedule with Colgates, Princetons, Dartmouths et al...and this is a winning program. But no way is this a winning organization in the BE. The big boys play in the BE: Pitino, Dixon, Boeheim, etc...they're not intimidated by back door cuts and gutless rebounding...and thus our offense is like kissing your sister. No zing, no originality, no virtuoso performers. Hell...watch the Hoyas on the floor...they look like they're ready to go to sleep. III has lost this team. If III doesn't change his thinking and recruit wisely, get better assistants, and weed the Ivy offense out of the Hoya garden...we'll be dead meat next year and beyond. Can someone please give one area of the '09 Hoyas that the coaching staff didn't manage miserably. Just one. Princeton Offense. Princeton offense. Another loss in the Ivy League. Not basketball... ladies Bridge. O Vey...are we in touble next year. Agree. Watching the tourney...our kids are very average on the talent side. One Tyree is worth all three of our McDs. More and more this entire coaching staff is suspect. While Jimmy B just keeps grinding them out and Pitino, Calipari, and Calhoun seem to have all the mojo of our era. It's not he kids that'll need change. Its the JT III system. The Summers exodus is a clear vote of no confidence. The BE has caught up with the III novelty...and the season's a rock bottom disaster. We need a change in coaching philosophy...watching the Tournament and applying the eye test...we're likely be a disater for recruiting. Would love to be proved wrong. Maybe we should just join the Ivy League. Does not feel very innovative to this Hoya. Maybe it's time for you to join the Ivy League. You post the same thing over and over. Methinks you're the one lacking any innovation or originality.

Daaaaaaaammmmmnnnn! The researched smackdown. ;D For my part, welcome to Coach Brennan. I am no expert, but I trust JTIII, so I am going to trust that this is a very good hire and addition. (and I will continue to hope that we keep a bench seat open for graduate assistant coach Jon Wallace, whenever he gets tired of living that really miserable life of a European professional basketball player )

NOW...Jon Wallace...that's an innovative idea!!
Sorry to upset you guys...but after your last year's predictions why the ad hominem stuff.
Summers should've stayed put...another example of lousy thinking.
Oh well...on to Kenner.

Terrible pick. Another Princeton guru. How about actually bringing some new ideas into the mix ?, or maybe a big man coach? The Princeton Society lives on.

If III is going to keep the Princeton system he needed another guy who was very familiar with the X & Os who could help with strategy or even take over a practice for one reason or another if III had to take a recruiting trip. So because of that it is a good pick. Its only a terrible pick only for those of you who want to scrap the system entirely.
