would be a great pickup, though he wouldn't be able to contribute till 2010-2011. He was described as the best jump shooter in his class on the west coast. could use some of that.

If Rahon were to come, in 2010-2011, we might have three: Nikita would be a RS junior, and Nate Lubick would be a frosh.

This country doesn't have a draft for the military any longer and I don't think Nikita has US citizenship. Does Belarus have a draft to scoop him?

True. If Omar sticks around, he'd be a senior.

Any info on why he is leaving after 1 year? Any pos/neg on Santa Clara also being a Jesuit institution? I follow SCU hoops a bit -- paying their tuition bills for a 2nd kid who decided to "Go West, young man, Go West!" and is back out at the school. The news about Rahon wanting to transfer shocked the school and the league since he was one of three stellar freshman players recruited by former UCLA assistant Kerry Keating and part of the "bright future" for SCU. All 3 made the 5-freshman lineup for the "All Freshman Team" West Coast Conference honors. Theories about the departure cover a range; short version: #1 Kerry Keating is a jerk who berates the players, and has run off 7 kids between last year and this year, and promised Rahon a starting position at 2G to lure him to SCU when Rahon had PAC-10 offers. (The League's fans and SCU fans have talked about KK and his in-game behavior toward his players. I've only been able to see one game and it's a sure thing he's no Dick Davey, as far as demeanor during games or toward players.) #2 Kevin Foster -- less heralded than Rahon -- turned out to be better than advertised as a 2G recruited into the same class and position as Rahon, and Rahon also fell behind a little when he was sidelined awhile with an injury sustained in the Pepperdine game. #3 Rahon's "ideal" position is 2G, with PG a position he was forced to play as a h.s. senior (injury to a teammate) and would be willing to play again, while coming in at a distant third would be 3G. HOWEVER, the lights-out performance of Foster at the 2G spot, the recruiting of incoming freshman Robert Smith at PG, all pointed to Rahon's future as a starter wedded to his least preferred position at 3G. media.www.thesantaclara.com/media/storage/paper946/news/2009/04/02/Sports/Freshman.Basketball.Standout.Transferring-3695048.shtmlmedia.www.thesantaclara.com/media/storage/paper946/news/2009/04/09/Sports/White.Will.Not.Return.To.Basketball-3704487.shtmlSCU is on the quarter system, and it's kind of interesting that the Athletic Dept. argues for dropping the scholarship aid to Rahon for the spring quarter. Seems like hard feelings all the way around. Keating played "hardball" with earlier transferee Zimmerman by putting Stanford off-limits for any "standard" immediate transfer involving just a one-year ineligibility period. As a result, Zimmerman has been at a JUCO cooling his heels as far as playing but taking classes, and published reports are that he will enter Stanford and play there. Longtime SCU Coach Dick Davey, whose "window-dressing retirement" was forced as agitated donors demanded a turbo-charged hoops program, is now an assistant at Stanford. Zimmerman was a Davey recruit who KK didn't want to lose (but did) while Gunderson was a Davey recruit who probably KK should have worked to keep in the program. Kid had a lot of promise and would have been solid once getting significant minutes of PT. Fan opinions are all over the place about Rahon, Keating, what's going on. scufanscom.yuku.com/topic/2063/t/Rahon-is-Gone.htmlscufanscom.yuku.com/topic/2074/t/The-Santa-Clara-on-Rahon.html

If we can get him, it would be a good move. Sitting out a year helprd PEII when he came to the HOYAS. It gives him a season to become accustomed to the scheme and a year to get into the weight room and add a year of maturity towards manhood. The upside is he has three years of eligibility left. It took PEII until mid-season of his red-shirt junior year to really become effective.
JTIII needs to go for it. He has the scholies available.

Nothing more on Rahon other than his plan to visit campus. Georgetown is "really interested" according to Rahon.

JTIII needs to go for it. He has the scholies available. Now with Jerrelle and Vee onboard, do we still want to use a scholarship? Would he walk on??? Thanks. Go Hoyas.
