Economic imbalance absolutely does matter. However, there is so much "noise" in the system due to front office effectiveness, injuries, etc., that people use stats like "World Series Champions" and grouping teams (ignoring there's a lot more low revenue than high, etc) to try to make a point that it doesn't make a difference. It does. It does and it doesn't. I agree with your point, that it does give well run teams massive overwhelming advantages. However, there are many examples of big budget teams who squander those advantages. Most people cite the later to discount the existence of the former, and that is dishonest.

Konerko and Dye hit back to back homers in a win against Detroit, and for both of them it was career #300
Very cool

Right -- and furthermore, a well run small market team can win. But the same small market can never have the sustained success a large market team could have if run properly.

And the lowest ERA on the Yankees... Nick Swisher.
Rough start to the season for Mr. Wang.

The "Wimpy Ways" of MLB continue--with Beckett getting a 6 game suspension. This had more to do with what happened off the field to Angels and their "grieving period" then anything on the field.
Everyone is turning into such FEMALE BODY PARTS--that it's sickening. Give me the days when you could drill guys in ribs, players/teams would fight/get after it and police themselves.
Now we have guys who get suspended for NOT hitting someone. This "PC" world SUCKS!!!

This "PC" world SUCKS!!! agreed. also i know the 6 day suspension is imposed on starting to pitchers to ensure they miss at least one start but does anyone know if these players are also paid pro-rata. If so, imposing a larger ban just because you are a SP seems unjust to me. For a non pitcher to get 6 games he would be doing something alot worse than purposefully throwing inside.

I don't care--the easiest part of the body to move is your head and that ball didn't come nearly as close as it appeared. It was sending a message--but Abreu is a dickhead, so it was deserved. Half these clowns who hit--crowd plate and jump back when ball comes up and in---or they dive into the ball and ball is over plate and makes it look worse then it is. Now I know Abreu called time--but Beckett didn't intend to drill him-if he wanted to--he would've. Between players reacting like female dogs when balls come up and in and fans reacting to any/every pitch near a hitter--even if it's a damn breaking ball-the pussification of MLB is just another example of the soft, punk-like society we've turned into. Whatever happenend to "playoff fouls", dusting a guy at plate, and don't even get me started on the NFL and the Flag Football they are transitioning into.

We are the Texas Rangers, and we wear blue hats. No, red hats! No, blue hats! No, red hats!
There should be some sort of limit on MLB team uniform/color changes.
PS: The blue hats looked much better.

Jason Kubel just hit for the cycle. That's even more impressive than the O-Dog's cycle for one simple reason--Kubel has the knees of an 80 year old man. Well that and his game winning grand slam traveled approximately 80000 ft.

Just got back from Nats Park: Josh Johnson, after the second inning, was very impressive for the Marlins. Joel Hanrahan was not for the Nats, blowing his second save in as many nights.
Oh dear it looks like the Indians are making a run at the record the Rangers set at Camden. I'm sure ichirohoya would be glad to see that feat topped. If it weren't the Yankees this would just be sad.

Anyone else notice it's currently 21-4 Tribe over the Yanks?
Wang: 1.1 innings, 8 earned runs.
At least Tex hit another dinger, that's nice.

Tex hit a fly ball out that flew out of the stadium like it was well hit. It was end of bat and should've/would've been an out at the old Stadium. It was a joke. Not as bad as Damon's HR the previous day.

I didn't see it but from what I've heard anything to right-center carries and carries in the new stadium.

If it happened to the Yankees (or the Red Sox, lets be honest) I would praise God and join a religious order. In all seriousness, whats the deal with Wang? He managed to give up 8 earned yesterday without walking a single hitter. Thems be some mighty fat pitches.

Well that and his game winning grand slam traveled approximately 80000 ft. I concur (although Hudson doing it in his first game at Dodger Stadium in a Dodger uniform was truly astounding). I hated seeing the Angels blow that game, but accomplishing a cycle with a grand slam is pretty special. How did Kubel get a triple, anyway? Did an outfielder fall down?

What the hell. Why not? I won't rain on your parade. Twins have as good a chance as anyone of winning the AL Central this year, but I'll stick with my Sox. Double or nothing it is. One month down, and the Royals are in first place. Even weirder, it looks like KC could stick around near the top for at least a few more months.

This "A-Rod" witchhunt has become embarrassing--for him, for MLB, and for the sport. I'll be honest--as a fan who can't stand him--I'm not surprised that he lied at his "tell the truth" presser, but what disgusts me more then anything--if it's proven he tipped off opposing players about pitches coming and expected the same in return. That is worst offense he's been accused of in my opinion and is type of behavior that warrants suspension or possible banning from the sport if proven true. That is messing with integrity of game, hurting your teammates/team, and doesn't matter if game was "out of hand" or not. He CHOSE to go to a place they would lose games, and he chose to put statistics ahead of winning.
Truly pathetic.
Now for the "Witch Hunt"--if this continues--and he like Bonds has to take brunt of all the scrutiny since both are not liked by most of the sport's followers--both media and fans, then it's time to release the rest of the list and set it straight. It's pretty obvious who cheated/cheats and it's going to be interesting to see if certain "beloved figures" who became "great hitters" but now have returned to type of crappy players they were prior to cheating get caught--and yes I'm looking at that tub of crap up in Boston who wears #34 amongst many others.
The real reason this list isn't being released is simple--the owners fear that if fans saw the "stars" they love/believe in from various teams on it-they'd lose at the gate and nobody wants that--so they gang up on A-Rod and let him take the abuse--which is deserved, but it's a joke if they keep going after 2/3 guys and absolve themselves from knowing. Entire sport from MLB Offices to Owners, knew what was going on and just didn't care due to increased revenue and interest.
So it's time to come clean and punish those who cheat the game and if that means A-Rod gets the Pete Rose treatment--so be it. Suspension is deserved if he's found guilty of doing what he's accused of in regard to the pitch tipping but he's far from alone in deserving to face the angry wrath of media/fans who seem to have it in their ignorant or blind points of view that only a few "bad guys" cheated.
