Of course if there's a Ferrari and a Mini Cooper and you can easily afford the Ferrari that you really, really wanna buy but go with the Mini so as not to Edited off neighbors that already hate you and whose earnings you subsidize, you're certainly making the smart choice. Complain about your small market/no market/non winning teams all you like. You'd prefer to have an owner put all of his/her resources into the team and you'd be lying if you said otherwise. Oh... and sweet move by the Red Sox not ponying up the extra 5 mil for Texeira. You wanna talk about bad moves?
As a baseball fan, I liked watching each series. I wish that Ryan Howard was hitting even a little bit... actually, I'd prefer to have seen all of the teams firing on all cylinders to see how it would have played out. The Dodgers were awful. The Twins were awful. The Yankees, largely, were awful. And Jimmy Rollins has a large mouth and ego for a guy with a sub-300 obp. In any case, instead of Philly signing anyone in the offseason, can they please get a team of shrinks for Cole Hamels? I'd have pitched Pedro ahead of him and Pedro belongs pitching batting practice after his first 50 innings of the year.

Yes, I'd like the Royals to be able to afford CC or Burnett or Texeria, but until Kansas City becomes the country's biggest market and can support a billion dollar sports network, that ain't happening. The issue is there are built-in inequalities that will never change. IF you think it's healthy for 90% of the teams not to be able to compete for players in the manner the Yanks and Sox do, then you can take that position. I just don't think it's good for the game. The NFL and NBA seem to do ok with a salary cap.

That was one heck of a swan song for Matsui. I'm not sure why Yankee fans should be gloating over their team doing something that they've been expected to do every year since they last won. Oh, yes I do. It's because they have the biggest sense of entitlement in American sports and think the Yankees = baseball. I just say thank you to the Angels, Red Sox, Tigers, Diamondbacks, Marlins, etc. for putting the Yankees in their place the last few years. Nothing good lasts forever. This coming from a fan of UCLA and the Lakers. Guess they NEVER had dynasties. Ha, ha, touche. Of course, I was a fan of the Bruins before the dynasty started, and went through plenty of misery with the Lakers in the '60s when they lost to the Celtics practically every year, so I paid my dues. One last thing - I really think and hope that the Yankees will build a statue honoring Rivera after he retires. The guy is hands down the best ever at his job. On a side note, I'm not going to comment about Torre one way or the other. I think he's done ok in LA. But RDF, do you really think he has ruined Billingsley? I just think that Billingsley needs to continue the maturation process. And I totally agree with Hank Scorpioborat about Hughes and Joba. It's way, way, way too early to give up on those guys as starters (although Hughes may have found a role that suits him - we'll see).

I hate the Yankees too, but if you've been paying any attention to the nonsense emanating out of Philadelphia and its mouth-breathing horde, you'd know that Phestoon Phans invented baseball.
