March 1
Tennessee - Florida We want: Vols. Shhhhh, don't tell the SEC they're a 2-3 bid conference until Selection Sunday.
Providence-Rutgers We want: Doesn't matter. Conventional wisdom says we want Rutgers to knock out Provvy. In the end, we'll likely face them in round 2 to do the deed ourselves if they win.
Cincy-Syracuse We want: Syracuse. Sad but true. I think Cincy should be in already and kind of want them to be. But if there's doubt left, we have to go with Cincy stumbling.
Michigan-Wisconsin We want: Badgers. No question here. Michigan finishes @wisco, @minnesota. If they lose out, they're toast.
Maryland-NC State We want: NC State. Of course. Although I don't think the Terps have a good chance to get ahead of us unless they win out. But just in case...
Rhode Island and Siena also play We want: Joe Lunardi not to get a job on the selection committee. As long as that doesn't happen, these teams will not get at-large bids.

And Marquette at L'ville. And the Colonel, yes, is in the house at L'ville.

We want: Joe Lunardi not to get a job on the selection committee. Lunardi currently has PC out of the tournament. Clearly Joe has lost his mind. WRT whether we'll play the Friars or not in the BET, whatever happened to that handy WVU website where you could predict the final BE standings/seeds in the BET? Shhhhh, don't tell the SEC they're a 2-3 bid conference until Selection Sunday. I don't disagree, but something tells me the chair of the selection committee might: www.bracketography.com/selection-committee/

Pitino wore his white suit in both halves today.

From the tgo in 10 or 11 Seed Plays PM thread: I imagine the formula would have to be different now that the Big East has expanded its tournament to include all teams. I guess they didn't think it was worth the time to rewrite that...

Cincy's playing like that first round BET bye--meh, take it or leave it.
34-11 Cuse with to 5:26 go in the first half. Alvin Mitchell was just ejected for a flagrant foul of some sort on a breakaway (my sound is off).

Cuse and Providence win in the BE.
Wisconsin holds on at home against Michigan.
And at the moment, it's looking like Tennessee will hold off Florida for the road win (and more importantly, hand a home loss to the Gators, damaging an already weak profile minus the win total).

Pitino wore his white suit in both halves today. Clutter. See above, gold, as I mentioned the Colonel was in the house today at L'ville.

Maryland survives, but not before Beavis hits an uncontested 3 at the buzzer up 8. I hope the Wolfpack remember that for next time. What a clown.

I think we want Maryland to keep winning. What will set us apart from other bubble teams are quality wins and SOS, since our record hurts us badly. Every MD win makes our neutral court blowout of them the better.

No way we should be rooting for Maryland at all. They are holding a spot either near or ahead of us in the overall bubble, and we need them to fall behind us. Definitively leaping them as far as the bubble is concerned should be the first objective, not getting the minimal RPI boost that them continuing to win would give us.
As for Cuse, the ONLY time I would be OK with them winning is a game like today, where they are facing a fellow bubble team like Cinci that holds a spot just above us that we need to jump over to get a bid. But that doesn't mean "rooting" for them is OK.

But that doesn't mean "rooting" for them is OK. I think that's a common misperception many people have. First, if Maryland keeps winning they'll get off the bubble and then presumably we wouldn't be fighting with them for a final spot in the tourney. What we don't want to happen is have Maryland end up squarely with us on the bubble with the same types of quality wins we have (remember Maryland beat UNC on road and Michigan State on neutral court). We want to put a blowout of Maryland on a neutral court in the quality win category. Two, what other teams do can have a major impact on your RPI. 50 percent of the RPI is your OPPONENTS average winning percentage. That's gigantic. Georgetown's predicted RPI moved 3 spots down this morning (from 31 to 34) just based on SUNDAY's games. We absolutely want that RPI to stay in the 30s. Bottom line, if Maryland keeps winning our RPI gets better, our quality wins resume improves, and we don't have to fight with them for a bubble bid, which is good because there are a lot of other weaker bubble teams out there I'd rather be compared too (see Florida/Kentucky for example).

This was brought up on Elliot in the Morning (morning Drive show in DC if you dont know) and that spurred a bunch of UMD fans to call and talk about how awesome they are for throwing batteries at the other teams players and hitting Carlos Boozers mom in the head with a full water bottle. They are really trashy, it is unbelievable to be that these are pretty much the same kids i went to High School with but once they get to CP they just turn into complete morons.

I'd agree with that, KHoyaNYC. If Maryland say beats Wake and then makes a deep run into the ACC tourney, then they'd be firmly on the inside, and our win would look better.
So I guess what we really should be rooting for is for them to run the table or to completely fall flat from here on out. But nothing in between, which would put them near us on the bubble.

Yeah, I mean all of of this discussion is moot if we don't win at least the next 4 games. I don't think anything less would do it for us, so I think all this bubble talk is operating under the assumption that we at least take care of business on our end.
