As part of the HHC 1984 championship anniversary event they are having an auction of 77 things, some are tickets or signed balls and some are experiences like dinner with JT III or golf with the hoya golf coach but by far the coolest has to be playing horse with Jeff Green, check it out. guhoyas.cstvauctions.com/auctiondisplay.cfm?auctionnbr=9557there is also a dvd collection that was either donated by mciguy or will be bought by him. impressive collection of items to bid on, should bring in some good money for the hoop club.

Why do they never publicize this? Or did I just miss this? Half the stuff ends in two days.
A box for next year's Duke game is going for $500.00 currently. Is there a live auction portion of this or something? 18 tickets for $500?

You would make back your money big time on the Duke tickets. And this Jeff game of Horse is AWESOME. Great thing for him to donate. He could give a signed ball or something, but this is so much better.

Wow that auction is struggling- some really cool items to be had for good prices for anyone with the means. If only that meant me. I hope tickets sales for the celebration dinner are doing a bit better- the 100th anniversary gala was awesome, and this should be a great event too.

i just got the email about it an hour ago so i dont think it started before today, anyone on the hhc email list will surely get a notice about it but it takes a while for thousands of emails to go out, there is a live auction component as well as the online pre-auction, i didnt look at all the details though dvd collection guhoyas.cstvauctions.com/auctiondisplay.cfm?auctionnbr=9590

How come there is a $10 fee for shipping and handling on the Jeff Horse item.
Also, from the email announcing this: In 1984, the Apple Macintosh was born, Clara asked "where's the beef?" for the first time and Springsteen sang "Born in the USA". Fuzzy Zoeller went to Winged Foot and captured the 84th US Open Championship and John Thompson, III graduated from Gonzaga College High School before heading to Princeton. In 1984 the NCAA expanded the men's basketball championship to 64 teams for the first time, making the journey to the championship that much more difficult. In 1984, Georgetown University, a small catholic school from Washington, DC reached the pinnacle of college basketball and captured the NCAA National Championship.
I question whether the NCAA went to 64 teams in 1984; I believe it was in 1985 that this happened. Anybody else remember this?

Maybe this will get us back some of that 300 million we've lost.

These items are all part of the auction at the 25th Anniversary of the Nat'l Championship event that's happening this Friday night in DC, and originally weren't going to be offered online (just at the event).
The decision was made late to offer them online as well so people could bid on them even if they weren't able to attend the event.
The auction at the event will have computer terminals set up, etc. So - even if you're elsewhere - you can bid against those who are at the event.

Some very cool stuff here. I was willing to lay down some cash for the box at the GU-Duke game but it's already over $2,700 now!
I'm not much into memorabilia collecting, but if you are there are some nice things that are at pretty low bid levels right now.

Well, I'm happy for the auction, which if it ended right now would have half the items unclaimed. Still, you'd get more money if you know, you publicized it. There's this thing that was really successful called ebay...I realize there is something on guhoyas, but c'mon, how many people go there daily? I won't even get into the HHC DC/non-DC divide thing...

I won't even get into the HHC DC/non-DC divide thing... This is actually an attempt to narrow that divide, isn't it? The original plan was to have the reception Friday night - in DC - and have an auction with only those in attendance able to bid. At which point I'm sure some of non-DC folks would've been upset that the were left out.

If the point is to raise money, isn't the more the merrier? I don't need to go down this road, but every year someone from the HHC asks me why membership is so biased to the DC Area. The answer is simply because there is no benefit beyond philanthropic outside of DC. And let's face it, most of the members join for tickets. Not a big deal.

I sure hope they have measures in place to make sure some Duke fan doesn't buy that box.

As I once saw Jeff make a half court shot BACKWARDS in the McDonough parking lot, I think that HORSE game would be short.

Does anyone know whether there is formal dress code for the event tomorrow? Thanks. Judging by past functions, shirt and tie for men would be appropriate.
