I haven't seen the movie, but I really don't understand why people think the book ending is at all difficult to understand. Veidt/Ozymandius pretty much explains everything regarding his plot. I've heard about the movie ending and while it seems like it might be okay, I have reservations regarding using that characters' power when in the book, that ending could never happen.

Saw it with Bando yesterday. Really enjoyed it. Much better than a lot of the slop on the big screen lately. I want to see a Smash Brothers-type video game with the characters from Watchmen, Sin City, and 300.

Having never read the book and only knowing very vaguely some background of the characters, I really enjoyed it a lot. I don't know the source material, but there was nothing that came off as out of place b/c of some over-loyalty to the comic. I considered it just really solid and entertaining. I finally went on Sunday, and I had the same reaction. To the contrary of some, I thought Malin Ackerman did a good job. I've never read the original text, however, reading this board and all the articles leading up to the release, I think I was little more informed about the backstory than the average viewer who, also, had never read the novel. Otherwise, I could see how the first hour or so would be a little hard to follow.

Not to drag this back up, but i just heard this clip form Studio 360 www.studio360.org/episodes/2009/03/06 (go to the bottom where it says Watchmen and listen to the story, its about five minutes) I think it helps explain why (ignoring the acting and cinematography) those of us who never read the book before seeing the movie just didnt feel the same way about it as some of you have. I didnt like the movie and it wasnt entirely because of what is in that piece, but it was some of it. It is worth a listen.
