Some of us rarely get to watch the games and depend upon others for a description. So my question--who are the leaders on this team--on and off the floor. I expected Sapp to be a leader and Summers, but neither seems to be able to carry the team like Green or Wallace did the past couple of years. Is it personality or age or both? Really hoping for some insight from anyone who actually knows this team.

On the court, there's absolutely zero leadership.

The leadership, like so many potential solutions to calculus formulae, fails to exist.

Chris: too out of control to take care of himself, much less lead others Jesse: bench all game (WHY?!) Dajuan: missed more baseline feeds from Monroe today than I've ever seen before Austin: way to start off the game on the right foot--we needed a good missed layup Greg: free throw? Nah, let's work for our points. Free throws are for chumps Answer: NO ONE.

There isn't any leadership.
And guess what guys?
Don't see any coming around anytime soon.
what? you think Freeman or Wright are leaders in the making?
will Monroe stay long enough to be an upperclassman? and even if he did stay, he seems more like the Cal Ripken, lead by example (i.e., not lead ) type player.
too early to tell with Clark and Sims.
maybe Omar and Nikita.

I have to say, it really really hurts us that we lost almost two full classes to transfer. It seems fine when you're winning but there is a massive leadership vacuum on this team right now and we have two upperclassmen who have nobody to rely on. They don't have any buddies, no teammate they've shared all the good times with. Sapp is missing those guys right now and so is Summers.
I'd almost encourage Summers to go pro and rebuild this team the way the Final Four team was built; with a bunch of guys who trust each other.

Jessie deserves to be on the court.
At least give him a shot right now--he's done enough to deserve the oppurtunity.
Let Austin sit.

Wasn't Summers the player who, during a video interview, described the unity/chemistry of this team as much better compared to last year's?

Just because Sapp is the only senior does not make him "the leader." On a team that is clearly lacking leadership, maybe some guys look to the only senior, but I've seen no evidence that Sapp is capable of being a leader. Yesterday, at pretty much every timeout he was the last guy to stand up and meet the players on the floor, routinely walking over to meet them while the other guys currently on the bench jogged. Seemed to have no enthusiasm or desire to support his teammates that were on the floor. Is that the way a "leader" acts? Really captured the listlessness that the team has shown during this losing streak.

freemoney... I saw that too and it got me sorta angry I gotta say. I don't think there's any leadership out there. It seemed like a bit of clashing heads for that role early on. Jessie was the de facto leader, Greg was the player guys were looking to, DaJuan seemed to be the emotional leader and Chris seemed to be trying hard to run the offense or at least direct the younger guys. Now, since there hasn't been one guy that is "the guy," it seems like everyone has taken a step back and left the team for whoever wants to run it. Sadly, it seems no one has stepped up.

Jon! Fix it! Really, what's he doing right now? We can't bring him and Tyler on as assistant coaches?

Many observations about the game but I will leave the Xs and Os to others and offer one. Sims and Sapp buried themselves in their warmups at the end of the bench. At the whistle only Nikita and Omar ran out to greet the players return to the bench. Sims and Sapp seemed apathetic as did the other bench players when not in the game.
Players on the bench need to support the floor players. They need to get up and congratulate them for the good and support them thru the bad. I saw neither from the 'bigger name' players. For the first time yesterday I said forget offense and defense. How do you explain that lack of support and camaraderie!?

I agree with many of the posters--lay off of Sapp. The whole "Sapp was ill thing" is 100% false. I know this for a fact. JTIII just decided to bench him. I love JTIII like the rest of you guys--but this decision, I 100% wholeheartedly disagree with. I want us winning or losing with Sapp. This kid has been through everything. He is pretty much the last guy on the team that we can single out as part of the resurrection of Gtown bball. He brings an attitude and toughness that no one else has--not to mention experience.
It is so sad to see thing kid go out like this. He will definitely leave this place with a sour taste in his mouth if he does---and it should never be like that. Jessie is a great kid---and most of all, he has played TEAM ball for 4 years. He has been where our current players (the baby hoyas) one day wish they can be. I love Jason, and he will get his chance. But, we are talking about Jessie Sapp here. JTIII is in the wrong right now. Have we been winning with Jessie on the bench? No. Plus, I want him with the ball in his hands with 13 seconds left vs. Cinci, not anyone else. JTIII is ruining this kid's head and this cant in any way help. I am sure Jessie is so down right now (did anyone see him barely in the huddle yesterday during timeouts?) It's a true shame. Jessie is our leader, let him lead.

gojeff.... I don't like how it looks either but without explicitly knowing why JT3, the COACH mind you who runs the team, sat Sapp, I don't think any of us can second guess it. Clearly, Jessie Sapp, the PLAYER who is supposed to listen to the coach, did something aggregious enough to sit. I want Sapp in the lineup as much as the next guy, maybe more, but I certainly wouldn't presume to know the situation better than the coach of the team. I'd like to see all the guys filling their roles and having fun doing it. I'm not seeing much of either from many of the guys.

sapp had to be injured yesterday. theres no way he only plays 6 minutes otherwise. he was sitting at the end of the bench past even some coaches/managers. he had been playing well over the past few games - if coach sat him for reasons besides injury or breaking team rules than we might as well spit on his career and mail in the season.

Again, I know for 100% fact he is totally fine, no injury, no sickness, etc. It was JTIII's decision to leave Sapp on the bench. It was a true DNP- Coach's decision. I give Jessie all of the credit if he could even keep his head up. Put yourself in his shoes. Like I said above, I want to win or lose with Jessie on the floor. He is the heart and soul of hoya basketball.
This kid was good enough to standout when playing with Jeff, Roy, Jon, and Pat. He is a good and smart basketball player. This isn't right on so many levels. My only wish is that before the season is over, he hits another huge shot. I can't think of a better player to take the last shot on this team. You need heart--NO ONE has more than Jessie.
