I honestly think this is the biggest game of the season so far, and I'm not among those who always consider the next game the biggest game of the season. If we win this one, I think the team finds its legs again and will make us all proud. If we lose, I'm pretty sure we're an NIT team. Scary, but I have to agree here - although I do think that IF we lose we COULD still make the dance, it would be much, much less likely (my eternal optimism won't let me think about the fact that we could possibly not make it). Even though we beat Rutgers, it was not a great showing. We ended a 5 game losing streak, but that is really all we did. We ended a losing streak. Saturday against Cincy, we need a turning point. Let's turn this thing around and get back on track. GO HOYAS!!!

This team has enough talent to beat anyone in the conference. But recent weeks have been a huge step backward.
Can our guys regain their footing and perform at the top of their game in the remaining weeks? I sure hope so. Someone has to remind them of what they were doing before when they were playing so well. DEFENSE #1, and running the offense, and playing TEAM ball!
GO HOYAS! It's February! Eat the Banana!

Yeah, I dont even know if it is about taking things for granted at this point. Cincy is pretty good team, and would be a solid win for us. We may be competing against them, more than against ND.

Cincy is playing very well right now and they are a physically tough team. They offensive rebound really well, so we need a great effort on the boards.

Lose this game and it would be really hard to argue that we belong on the same level with Cincinnati when it comes to NCAA bids.
Our Providence win up there looks better and better though.

Cincy smacked around Notre Dame tonight. The box score looks like it was a close game, but if by smacked around you mean "played very physical and there were a lot of fouls", then you'd be right: 35 total fouls with 2 technicals (one on Cronin, one on McAlarney), Cincy shot a ridiculous 41 foul shots. If this continues on Saturday, certain Georgetown players who have a tenancy to loose their cool when fouled (DaJuan, Jessie, and even Greg has shown this a bit) need to keep it under control.

This is a good chance for the Hoyas to move up in the standings, get some confidence, and enjoy some payback for the first game. With a week off, there is no excuse for anything but a maximum effort. GO HOYAS!!! Beat the Bearcats!

Cincy smacked around Notre Dame tonight. Does anyone think that Brey's third straight Big East COY is in jeopardy yet? He's still wearing the mock turtlenecks so I can't see that his standing would change at all. As for the foul differential in the Cincy-ND game, it's unlikely Cincy would have that big of an advantage at the Phone Booth. The fouls were only 18-12 in their favor on their home floor.

Brey coaching a team with low to moderate expectations = automatic BE COY, no matter how ND does or whether there are better choices for the award.
Brey coaching a team with high expectations = crash and burn.

It was already a big game for us, but now with Cincy sitting at 5-5 in the Big East after beating Notre Dame, it's even bigger. And Deonta Vaughn scored 34 points, damn.
Gotta bring it Saturday. Huge, huge game.

You mean Providence here, or UConn up there? Either way, I agree that our Providence win was an important one. I thought at the time of our game, that if their defense has a halfway decent game, they could beat a lot of big east teams. i can still see them making noise down the stretch.

If Brey can't get ND to go on a 2-game winning streak before the end of the season, it may be a close vote.

am i the only one that see's this as JT III's award? granted we need to go on a bit of a run to end the year. but we had very low expectations going into the year.

Buzz Williams is having a helluva first year as Marquette's head coach. There still is a lot of basketball to be played, but at this point, he's got to be the front-runner, no? We were picked 7th in the Big East, which might be characterized as low expectations compared to the expectations of the last couple years. However, considering we are alone in 10th in the Big East right now, I wouldn't see this as JT III's award. It would take one hell of a run. What is the criteria for Big East COY, anyway?

9-9 is not winning BE COY. Nor should it.
I love III; I think he's one of the best coaches in the BE. And if he had taken a young team and won the BE or gone 14-4 or something like that, he'd have won.
He'd more or less have to win out to deserve consideration for a regular season award. He's still a great coach, but results-wise, this so far has been an expected, not great, job.
As for Buzz Williams, it's easy to be a coach with three elite seniors and a top junior. I'm not sold yet.
Not sure who I'd give it to -- the season is playing out fairly consistently. Maybe Mick Cronin? Huggy Bear? Jay Wright?
