Ray does play defense and does a lot of little things that JTIII recognizes. Ray may scare you, but he doesn't scare JTIII, because he is not afraid to put him out there for games. Its obvious JTII is less hesitant to put Reed in than he is Crawford. Plus Crawford and Reed don't play the same position. Did you ever think of that? Probably not. I think if JTIII thought Crawford has earned the right for playing time, he would put Crawford in the game. I trust JTIII and his decision making. Whatever JTIII does, I am all for it.

reed and owens are useless. crawford should see the floor before either of them. owens does nothing but stand around and chuck an occasional 3. tyler is active and hits the glass. That's quite a broad generalization about Crawford based on one game! I admit that Crawford stepped up in the BC game, but that's all we've seen of him this year.

JTIII plays him because he doesn't have a choice. Also, having been at every home game and at BC Reed doesn't play the type of defense you think. He constantly gets right up in the face of his player and then gets beat into the lane...nearly every time. It's something that doesn't show up in box scores, but is readily visible in person. In fact, at the end of the game when SH was making a run this happened again and JTIII brought Reed over to him IMMEDIATELY in an animated conversation.
On your other point: The Hoyas play an untraditional offense with no real PG per se. I advocate a three guard rotation where Ashanti and Wallace rotate at the point with Crawford getting minutes at the other guard spot. You can also rotate Owens into that other guard spot as well (Bowman can handle the ball as well). Ashanti and Wallace can perfectly handle the PG spot and share the minutes bringing the ball up the court.

I trust JTIII's judgement. We are winning ball games with his judgement. Thats what matters most, W's. Reed will still get his minutes as long as he has earned the right for those minutes, just like Hibbert earned the right to start later in the year.

Tyler plays the 3- he's a big, strong swingman who can hit outside Js but is very active on D and on the boards. He's not in competition with Ray Ray.
I like Reed's energy and he has gotten a lot better this year. I think we should lay off the kid- word is he's working very hard to develop the skills to fit into the Princeton- and that also takes time.

Reed's minutes should go to Crawford for the next few games...it can't hurt.
If Crawford does well in spot duty filling in for Reed, then maybe he evetually takes Owens spot.
None of these three are good enough to have a secure spot in the rotation so go with the hot-hand...granted it was one game.

Tyler is 6' 4'' and 196 pounds. If the kid can't play the 2 then we have another problem. He does get minutes at the wing/2 position.

Tyler is a big physical 6'4". When you see him on the court he plays like he is 6'6" or 6'7". He is more forward than he is a guard. Which means he is versitile, which JTIII likes. In the next couple of years I think he will develop into something special.

All I'm saying is that he's fully capable of playing the off-guard spot right now. Which is all we need at this point. I agree he plays big and will bang inside and can play multiple positions. All good things.
My only point is that I think he can take some of Reed's minutes and we'd be fine as a team.

I would like to see more of Tyler too, and am a little curious why he didn't get a run last night. But, didn't Ray come in (again?) after/near the end of the SH run? Not trying to quibble, but their run was rooted in wide-open outside looks and our lack of rotation. Seemed to me like III put Ray in exactly to do what he does best, which is stay glued to guys (though I will grant you that he does sometimes get beat on the dribble). And if I am not mistaken (may have to check the game flow), the outside looks, and the Pirate run, pretty much ended there. When I think of Ray, I think of him jumping about 97 feet in the air at half court to steal a baseline inbounds last year. Just an unbelieveable play by a gifted athlete. I think we have to think of him as a freshman, with a lot of potential, who is finally being coached. I think we are going to need his defensive quickness in the coming years. (Yes, I am still blocking out last night's 2 missed free thows ) But again, I would like to see more of Tyler too. I think he does bring more offensively than Ray.

once thornton and sapp get here next year, ray's minutes will probably disappear. he provides a spark defensively at times, but he just makes too many mistakes.
