Speaking of that, one of my favorite plays was after the Hoyas scored late in the first half run (I can't remember whioch play), SU called timeout, and Henry went charging back to the bench with his arms in the air screaming at the students. III intercepted and almost tackled him while shoving him towards the huddle. Focus. Focus. Focus. I liked this play too. Apt, I think, that you like it DanMcQ given that you are a moderator ;D I go back and forth on things like this. In the Final Four year, it wasn't unusual for Roy or Pat to come over and pump up the fans. This year there have definitely been times when the freshmen really go in for showing some emotion and Coach, Jessie or DaJuan have calmed them down. Do you think that Thompson just considers it a pay-your-dues sort of thing? You know, "You're a freshman, and someday I'll let you go holler at the crowd, but right now I still have things to teach you." I think it must be, because Austin likes to play to the crowd sometimes. He may not be shouting, but he's all about waving his arms for more noise.

Two Three thoughts:
1. it sometimes takes away from focus in young players 2. I don't think III likes showboating ... at all 3. it was the first half - SU has a team that can erase a 20 point lead in a flash and the less you do to enable that the better

I think it has something to do with the way in which they do it. When Roy or Jeff did it or when Austin does it, it's usually waving their arms to get the crowd going (Wright did this late in the game last night). Henry was kind of stomping around screaming. I'm sure it came off a little more like showing up the opponent than the waving the arms. It could be the frosh thing too.

I'm sure a lot of it, too, is the system. So often we're bringing in guys who were the stars of their programs and it's probably hard enough to get them to buy into the offense (see Chris REALLY early last year). Checking the showboating checks egos too.

how about some of the worst plays/scenes from su:
1. rick jackson's free throws. his stance reminds me of my 3 year old when she has to pee. 2. rick jackson's phantom passes. 3. harris/devendorf/flynn jawing with boeheim on the bench. do you think any hoya would argue with jtiii? i think not. 4. rautins knee. good luck. 5. kris joseph was so preoccupied with payback that he forgot to catch a nolan ryan fastball pass from flynn. 6. flynn's late 3 attempt that drew backboard. 7. onuaku's airballing a freethrow. 8. the moronic showboating. flynn staring down the crowd. harris staring down summers. at least dev didn't start dropping m'fers like he usually does.
i'm sure there's more.

Not just that, but the kind of disappointment Boeheim would show when someone messed up. He'd have this look on his face like "What was THAT?" I'm obviously no coach and I'm sure disappointment motivates players, but I'm just glad III never looks at his players with expressions approaching disdain.

Oh, and I completely forgot one of my favorite plays.
Flynn(?) at the line for a 1-and-1. He misses and only Greg seems to realize the ball's live.

Once Greg realized it, Wright realized it and started off down the court and then everyone else finally caught on.

wrote about that play on the main thread. My favorite moment of the game. It epitomizes the differences between georgetown and syracuse.

I think #9 needs more props...it appeared as if that may have been a called defensive play where the wing defender let's himself get taken out/runs past the shooter in order to entice a drive and then we block the shot from the post.
Also known as Shooter's play call in Hoosiers during his five minutes of sobriety.

Did Clark travel on that shot clock saving basket? It looked like he picked up his dribble and then dribbled again.

He sort of lost possession for a moment during the tie-up with Jackson in the lane, so I think that's what makes it not a walk. Ah. Difficult to see in the small window on the screen. When I saw it live my focus was split between Clark and the shot clock, so I wasn't following his precise steps that closely.
