"It will be just too unstoppable to have a Long 6-9 Russian with Athleticism, ball handling and deadly 3 Pt shooting."
I have no idea where you see his athleticism and ball handling. Having watched Kenner League this past summer and his development this season, other than shooting 3s he does nto add much value.
He could be very good in another year or two, but not right now. You're right, he can come on, be tall, and play good lengthy defense on guys, but the rebounding and ball handling is certainly not there. In Kenner he looked great because he would come in and play against guys who are not on teams that will be comprable to the competition in either the BE or NCAA.
I wish Nikita all the luck in his development, but he is a long way from being AK47 and the driving force of a Final Four team. People need to stop shooting for the national title after a win over Rutgers where anybody with a decent shot and deisre would have looked good regardless of skill.

Notice that this thread was started well before the Rutgers game when we were playing well and Nikita was barely getting any PT. And as for the rebounding, from what I've seen, I don't know where you're coming from. He had 7 boards against cincy and seems to be able to box out people from the 3 spot. He's much bigger than the average 3 at the college level and has been efficient in his time on the floor. His ball handling isn't that of a PG but it has improved leaps and bounds since the beginning of the year(mostly confidence probably), not to mention he pretty much scored off an iso with some nice greg-like moves last night. Those 3's that he normally hits go down last night and he has 13-15 pts leading the team in scoring....

In general, statements about players who are emerging bench players seem to ebb and flow in response to the immediate game; that is natural and to be expected. Nonetheless, I think it advisable to comment more on the middle ground and realize that different players will have strong games or poor games in the future and that we should take those extremes with a grain of salt. That being said, the optimist in me will still tend to focus mostly on the positive.
Regarding Nikita, I have always liked his stroke and the way he snaps his passes, and I am confident that we will be extremely pleased to have had him as a four year player. There is my middle ground comment.
Focusing on the positive, I'm really impressed with one facet of his game. He passes decisively while not being excessively turnover prone. He is particularly and consistently adept at feeding the post man. That is what really stands out to me about this player.

The best thing about Nikita is he insists on getting Monroe touches.

Agree with Gammo and pws ... What is impressive on a team who has trouble with the pass into the post is that Nikita not only gets Monroe the ball it's how he gets him the ball. His entry passes are low lateral bounce passes (not straight on) with spin in the direction of Monroe. There is a very low probability of a kick or turnover.

nikita is currently shooting 30.4% from 3 and 32.4% overall.

I am looking forward to seeing a TV game with Nikita getting some minutes and Really encouraged to hear about his passing. So many of our guys (Freeman, Summers) make lazy passes. It is maddening. Don't they know they are playing vs. D1 ballers? Some of our telegraphing and weak passing is almost unfathomable. Crisp, hard, sharp passes... and crisp, hard sharp cuts too. That is what the Princeton is all about.

That is what the Princeton is all about. If I had to pick my pet peeves from the Thompson era, that's one of them. Utterly sloppy passes. The other ones are related -- an odd tendency to not attack the press in most, but not all, games and the worst fast break I have ever seen.

Nikita = long arms = greater ease in making the entry pass.
We need to recruit more freakishly long-armed players like Nikita and Clark.
;D
Actually, I'm not entirely joking. I do think those players' extended appendages contribute, in part, to better passing ability.

What do you mean, teetering? We've been mad for quite some time now. Can't say I can disagree with that one, Boz. Every time the Hoyas lose a game all hell breaks loose and we hear calls to "Dump the Princeton", "change the line-up", "play this guy", "don't play that guy", "we can't recruit", "we need better facilities", "we need an on-campus arena" (as if), and other nonsense. So what does that say about US Boz that we keep coming back and reading AND posting!?!?!

Can you spell serious schizophrenia? Or, to put it a different way, Hoya paranoia? Good point Mass... but I always thought the Hoya Paranoia was something we did to OTHERS! Not to ourselves!
