Eric Prisbell: Monroe has gotten off to a better start than I thought he would. I went down to Louisiana last year to watch one of his practices and do a story on him. I thought he was good, but not great. You always wonder if he is too good too soon, he will take off after a year. But he is a good character kid, and a player who I thought could be in the program for a few years. The more I watch Monroe, the more I think he is going to be a one and done player. There are many factors that are leading me to this conclusion. The first is Monroe looks very good, a lot better than I think many of us expected. The second is the the players who were locks to be one and done, Derozen from USC and Evans at Memphis, the other kid from UCLA, have so far been far from impressive. Monroe is going to jump all these guys on NBA scouts big boards. The last reason is the draft pool is going to be very weak this year. We can argue all day about how another year will help Monroe as a player, but the fact remains if you're a lock to go in the top 10 of the draft, you goto the NBA, sign a contract for guaranteed money and figure it out while playing with the big boys. I hate to admit it myself...but I think you're right. That said, it all really comes down to how Monroe performs in the big east against other bigs. If he outplays guys like Thabeet, Blair, and Gody...you may as well waive bye-bye.

Speculating on this stuff shouldn't be here, at least until the kid plays the entire season out--let him learn/play a year before we make final judgement on NBA potential or a guy's season.

I agree completely. Its only two games into the season, two games that haven't had a player over 6'9 and some of you are already throwing him his going away party. Everyone needs to relax a little bit on Monroe, yes he is really good and a great fit for the offense, but lets not talk about the NBA until he puts up these numbers against Big East frontcourts. If he plays this well against them, then we can start talking one and done.

You mean to tell me this guy didn't turn out to be a star: Opponent | Minutes | Points | FG% | FT% | REB | BLK | PF | Grambling | 29 | 23 | 66% | 63% | 13 | 1 | 1 | Bethune Cookman | 30 | 21 | 77% | 77% | 10 | 3 | 3 |

Ah, one of the all time mysteries in GU basketball. That guy had a ton of talent and skills. I just don't know why he didn't put it all together. And to go from 12+ points his junior year to half that his senior year. Jeez...

mentioning wilson's name in a monroe thread is flat out bad karma.
i'm really looking forward to see monroe play this week. plus, i'll be scalping tickets here in hartford to see him dunk on thabeet in december.
btw, did anyone see that wisconsin kid try to dunk on thabeet last night. thabeet blocked his shot into another dimension.

<start RBHoya smug Edited> Guys, having Monroe's name in the same thread as Wesley Wilson's doesn't make any real difference...you all know that right? No matter what you say about Monroe on this board, it won't impact his performance. <end RBHoya smug Edited>

Blake Griffin was expected to leave last year as a certain top 10, but came back and is absolutely dominating at Oklahoma early this year. Monroe seems to have the same character of Griffin and is equally understated and intelligent (if not, more). I still think he'll stick around a 2nd year to become a truly dominant force and wind up in the top 5-7 after his soph year.

Part of the reason Griffin came back, though, is that he got hurt.
