We have normally just done Mike G updates in the Team Take Over thread, but since this is individual camp time we are just giving it a bump. Mike played great all camp. After Gilchrest, Gbinji was the best 2011 prospect there. He constantly attacked the basket and made great all around plays. The next step in his development is becoming a more consistent outside shooter and tightening his handle. But he is a wonderfull all around player, and really competes on the defensive end.

playing with team takeover has to be a good sign for us. guess his recruitment all depends on who we take in 2010.

All I can remember is that the G is silent.
Maybe its something like Ben-a-jay or Ben-ee-jay.

Blurb from NBE at the King James:
Michael Gbinije (6-6, 194 lb) dropped midrange jumpers, usually from the corner, and played hardnosed, aggressive defense and keeping his guys he was guarding in front of him.
Michael Gbinije 6-6, 194 lbs, class of 2011
High School/Hometown: Benedictine/Chester, PA
Wingspan: 75’
Big East Comparison: Wesley Matthews (Marquette)
Interest: UNC, Pittsburgh, Georgetown, Texas, UVA, Virginia Tech, Maryland and Florida
Strong Point: Showed off a nice, consistent 12-15 foot jumper whether contested or open
Area of Improvement: Needed to get back on defense quicker; better awareness

Per Scout:
Michael Gbinjie - 2011 wing from the DC area is a lot of fun to watch. A 6-foot-6 wing who is an excellent spot up shooter, his improvement off the dribble and how much harder he’s playing was very noticeable. The kid admitted that he perhaps got a big head for a little while because of all the attention he’s getting, but he’s back on track. There aren’t many kids who are willing to admit that and he deserves credit for taking an honest look in the mirror.

J/K gra I had to do it.

J/K gra I had to do it. There's an obvious explanation for this. "Gbinije" translates to "dragon" in English. So now the secret is out. More seriously, it takes a pretty insightful kid at 16 (I'm assuming he's 16) to realize that he was a victim of swelled head disease and do something about it. Good for him.

Per Scout at Peach Jam:
It was a very nice outing at the Peach Jam for the 6-foot-6 junior to be. After some real up and down performances, he looked pretty consistent in North Augusta. He’s a very good spot up jump shooter with easy range to the three point line. While not a traditional high flyer, he is plenty athletic and has really improved his first step. Also improved is his ball handling.

Very good showing from Gbinije in the final of the Super Showcase. Good shot, good slashing ability. Needs to get slightly better on defensive lateral quickness. Solid rebounder, good ups. Needs to be made a priority in the '11 class for us.

Scout article on Gbinje said he was at UNC's UNC Alumni Night yesterday. Doesn't have a UNC offer but was told that he is next on the list, behind Hairston and McAdoo, should a scholly open up for the class of 2011. In addition to UNC, listed Wake Forest, Villanova, Duke, Oklahoma, Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, Syracuse, Maryland, Virginia Tech and Virginia.
