Christian Scott, a young, stylish New Orleans trumpeter, nephew of alto player, Donald Harrison. Scott's music combines elements of rock, blues, and r&b while remaining deeply rooted in jazz. I find his music to be a thoroughly modern, fresh interpretation of the music I enjoy by a member of the young generation of players who represent the future of the music. Scott posseses an engaging personality, and frequently converses with the audience, another aspect of the show I enjoyed. First saw Christian when he was still in high school as he sat in with Uncle Donald during Harrison's set at the Jazz Fest. Twenty year old flutist and Presidential Scholar, Elena Penderhughes, whom I had never heard except on Scott's latest CD and on an FM recording of a Scott concert, IMO stole the show when afforded extended solo space. Plus, she was really easy on the eyes.

So glad you had a nice time. It's really easy to do that here in New Orleans! Scott appeared at the performance space in The George and Joyce Wein Jazz & Heritage Center. The Jazz and Heritage Foundation regularly sponsors this series and other free performances around the city.

John Boutte, singer of Treme Song, theme song from the HBO series "Treme", and many other wonderful compositions, in the 200 seat Jazz and Heritage Foundation school of music theater. Drummer Shannon Powell and his group played as well.

It's French Quarter Festival weekend! Highlight for me on opening day was the Uptown Jazz Orchestra, a 16 piece big band under the direction of Delfeayo Marsalis. They were outstanding on a gorgeous spring day. The second line through Jackson Square to end the show had everybody up and dancing!

First weekend of Jazz Fest! So much wonderful music. While I enjoyed lots, for me Dédé Saint-Prix Band of Martinique and The Garifuna Collective of Belize stood out. Oh, and New Orleanian Terence Blanchard, of course. Y'all really should try to make this once in your life. Take my advice-add it to your bucket list. You won't be disappointed!
Edit: Almost forgot. Leyla McCalla, a New York-born Haitian-American living in New Orleans, who sings in French, Haitian Creole and English, and plays cello, tenor banjo and guitar, also was outstanding.

Agree with you HIS. One of America's great annual music events, and then there's the food! Love Terence. So much soul in his music. Couldn't make it this year == I'm jealous!

I seem to post more than anyone else in this thread. But then again, I do live in New Orleans. Off to Satchmo Fest!

Don't get to many shows these days, but always catch Lyle Lovett when he comes around. Saw him this week and he did a song for Guy Clark, who passed away this year. Also happens to be my wedding song. Really good moment and show.

GunsnRoses with about 15 Gtown friends in a thankfully air-conditioned suite at Giants Stadium was a summer highlight. The music was better than expected, Kravitz and Guns, but the people watching in the parking lot was something to behold.

Cuban conguero and vocalist, Pedrito Marinez. Wow! He plays the heck out of those congas! If you're in New York and like Latin music, go see Pedrito!

Been to a few concerts recently....
John Mayall....the godfather of British Blues. He's in his 80's, but put on a great show.
Sean Jones quartet......former trumpet player with Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra
Steve Vai Passion And Warfare 25th Anniversary Concert....played the whole album start to finish and then some
I think that's all....more to come!

Sorry for the reeeaaallly late post on this, but... saw Desert Trip (aka Oldchella) last fall and it was pretty rad. Definitely liked how McCartney was able to create an intimate environment talking about old Beatles stories with 75k people around. Also, Dylan not even MENTIONING the Nobel was pretty cool.
Looking forward to Coachella this spring. Probably camping. Will provide an after-action report. Possibly also seeing Stagecoach and whatever's up at Pappy & Harriet's or the casinos. Palm Springs area has surprisingly good music. No DC where you can walk to everything, but still good.
Cheers

Blues singer/guitar player, Robert Cray, is bad!!! Outstanding show! I saw him as the lead act for Eric Clapton many moons ago. That was nice.
