MCIGuy and many others may not believe this because of how vocal I have been about hating Duke, but I was actually hoping they would win last night.
Yes, I still hate Duke, but I think there were some good reasons for this:
1. Undefeated or not, Duke is really not as good as past Duke teams. Sooner or later, they will get exposed.
2. Undefeated or not, Duke still has ESPN in its pocket. A win last night couldn't have had Mike Patrick's nose further up K's butt than it already is, so who cares?
But, most importantly, 3. I want Maryland to have a train wreck of a season. Literally. We are on our way back, there is no question about it. And maybe JTIII & Broadus don't need Maryland to suck for us to win local recruiting battles. But it can never hurt. The way I see it, the worse Maryland is, the better that is for Georgetown, with recruits, media, TV, everything.
In a nutshell, I probably hate both teams equally. I get mad that Duke gets all the national attention, and mad that Maryland gets all the local attention. So, in the end, when it is an equal measure of hate on both sides, I have to go with what's better for the Hoyas. In my opinion, that would have been a Maryland loss. Unless we beat B.C. on Saturday, and I hope we will, Maryland just bought itself many, many days of being number one in the local media. We need to change that in Chestnut Hill.

If Duke was playing the "Taliban All-Stars", with Saddam Hussein running the point and Hitler at the 2, I could not cheer for Duke...

let's weight the elements: (2) Maryland Disdain for Gary. Not a lot of love for the city of College Park (though frat row is something to be envied). Really sick of Maryland fans saying the ACC is the best conference EVER because they're in it and they beat Duke sometimes (see self-fulfilling prophecy tirade above) and that they won the NCAAs in '02 (hated that outcome even though it meant I won the Tourney Pool at the Tombs senior year, which was nice). Don't really like the game they play. Wasn't stoked at all in 2001 they beat us in the Sweet 16 at the Pond and then go back to DC like 6 hours later. Definitely not cool with how they get more love in DC than Gtown (ok, they're public and we're private, they've been better than us recently, blah blah blah) even though they're not FROM DC (I generally have issues with "out of town" teams representing a city - another reason to hate the fact the Angels owner renamed the team the "Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim" grrrrr). So, that being said, GO TERPS, glad you knocked off an undefeated. Now it's our turn!! I'll play devils advocate here... I agree that is it frustrating to see Maryland get all the local press' attention, but in reality, Maryland is a DC Area team.. The District is tiny, and College Park would be considered a suburb in most other large American cities... It is right off the beltway, has a metro stop, and about half of those Twerps stay in the DC area after graduation.... heck... half of them have never left the area.. (thought i would get a cheap shot in there)

Duke. And especially in last night's game. When two teams that I dislike play, I always pull for the away team so I can watch the home fans get dejected. Perhaps that makes me a bad person.

I don't think it makes you a bad person, but my thoughts are a little self serving. I was laughing and kept hitting the rewind button on my DVR last night as ESPN showed the Duke fans at the end of the game. I swear most of the ones they showed looked like they were about to cry. Now, I love my Hoyas and am disappointed when they lose but if last few years couldn't bring me to tears, then I doubt any loss ever will.
