needs more youtube links Russky
I believe the team that beat the toombs beat M&A by like 30 on Sat. so it looks like the freshmen did better against Onuaku than the Mason veterans

i really don't like seeing our hoyas on the mason team. The mason guys do not share the ball, and they play a very unorganized uninspired style of play. I'd prefer seeing Sapp handle the ball more than Skinn. I'd prefere seeing Sapp, Wattad, Cameron Long, Diggs, and Thomas play, and the rest of the guys go somewhere else. Skinn has been a black hole in the Kenner league and its made me not like his game as much as I did during the final four run.

Good job, Russky. I was worried about what would happen to the reports once FL's four years of eligibility were up.

does anyone stick around for the M&A games ever? I'd like to know how Sapp and Wattad are progressing on the Mason run, Tony Skinn show. (I've heard neither is getting enough touches but when they do they are looking good). Thanks. -Lawyer the M&A game was the first one i beleive. I saw the last ten minutes. from what i saw, yes it was the tony skinn show, but the kid is good in KL so let him have his fun. Jessie was running as full till (or is it tilt? i never know) so the ankle must have been nothing. Omar was in for a while and looked very comfortable playing against those guys and as usual had a text book defensive stance and was all over the place with it. he had a couple of nice rebounds- good athletic moves over bigger guys. dont know about his scoring. To the tombs game. That was strange. every play you knew the tombs was the more talented team and with Madness having only five players i figured the tombs would run away with it in the end. It was kind of like the ODU game a two years ago. You knew one team was much better but they were losing. I think that most of the turn overs were from the guys being to "cute" as they say. They would some really nice plays and then think that they wouldnt have to work for points and boards and such and that created turn overs. The highs, for me, were clark and nikita. I had never seen clark play but he really wowed me at some points (like the sweet move he made under the basket for a layup and his nice ball handling) but yes he didnt shoot too well. This though was nikita's game. I thought he scored more than 13, or at least it seemed that way. it wasnt just that his shot was falling, it was that he seemed to take control of plays. he looked like a starter not a bench guy. he was calling for the ball and when he got it made plays that lead to points. he hustled every where and was diving for loose balls and steals. if he can play like he did yesterday for 10 minutes a game this season that greatly improves gtowns chances of winning in march. if yesterday was not an aberration but rather a glimpse at how his game could be, then i see no reason to feel any less comfortable with nikita on the floor than say Tyler (who doesnt seem to be getting enough run on his team, but did throw down a sick put back). finally chris was definately playing more like a PG than a SG yesterday. He appeared to be looking for the open man first or who would be open next, instead of looking for the shot.

thanks jgalt... I appreciate the overview... Skinn is good but I like Kenner for the sole (albeit selfish) purpose of letting the Hoya guys develop. If Skinn is jacking it up limiting touches for Sapp and Wattad, I can't be too happy with it. I wish there werent a 2 returners rule, because I think a guy like Wattad could benefit offensively from playing with Chris and the other "freshman." (although Wattad played last year his relative inexperience would benefit by playing with Wright so they get used to each other).

Just a note to the "official scorer." The total for the 5 hoyas listed is 59 points. Unless one of them is playing for the other team, something is off. Thanks for the report though. Don't pay too much attention to summer league stats. Gene Smith used to score big time in the summer along with his brother Curt, but never showed the same tendencies in college. Curt had more game than most, but never hit the books and only played a little bit for Dayton.
Curt Smith was Charles' brother, not Gene's.--Admin

I still remember Wallace saying "some old dude was killing us" his first summer of Kenner. I died laughing.

Admin: Sorry about the mixup on brothers. You are right of course. At least I didn't say he was Jonathon's brother. Jonathon had unreal hops for a guy listed at 6'. There was a game back in the days when the team was struggling for wins when with about 2 seconds left and GU up one Jonathon forced a jump ball. Big John started shaking hands and slapping palms on the bench because he knew there was no chance in hell that Jonathon wasn't going to win the tap. And he did.

Stafford72, Glad you brought up Jonathan Smith. One of my all time favorite Hoyas and one of my two favorites Jonathans. For those who may not know, Smith was a Lightning quick guard who could shoot, drive, pass and wreak havoc for the other team. He was the kind of talent who could take over a game for a stretch or a half. One of the five freshmen who came in with JT3. All five were good, but Smith and Merlin Wilson (C) were incredible. Seeing those guys playing for GU? Well, it was kind of a "Toto, we're not in Kansas anymore" moment in Hoya Hoops. Back in the day, all home games were played on campus at McDonough which, in those days, seated about 4000? or so.
