I tried to look back through some of the most recent threads and it looked like people were still looking for an official word on Braswell... found this sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/recruiting/basketball/mens/news/story?id=3395513second to last bullet states: Six-foot-8 senior forward Chris Braswell will return to Hargrave Military Academy for a postgrad year. The Georgetown signee was more active this weekend than we've seen in the past; he scored 26 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in the quarterfinals for Triple Threat. Not official, but it looks like the evidence is mounting... Apologize if this is clutter...

Either he didn't graduate on time or he doesn't qualify to play Div 1 basketball because of test scores/grades. I said a long time ago that we should have moved on after he left Dematha and I still think that's the case, though I guess with the transfers we don't need to be reserving scholarships for him anyway instead of other players that can actually qualify to play.

Dhall, if i have been following this situation correctly, Braswell didnt qualify because of a change in NCAA rules that required more credits. so he could have graduated and still not qualified. Correct me if i am wrong

nothing is 100% in stone. He COULD get his course work (high school equivalency and + courses necessary to be NCAA eligible) complete over the summer or possibly during 1st semester and enroll here in the second. BUT it seems like he will need another academic school year to right the ship, so to speak. We will be ready for him whenever he is ready for us. More time will only make him better as both a student and a player.
good luck Chris Braswell
ON EDIT: It's probably best to proceed (from a preparation standpoint) as if he is not going to be here, and if he makes it, it will be a great bonus.
On a side note, How much does Gus Gilchrist regret not coming here? Worst case scenario he would have been competing for minutes with Sims at the 5 second semester this year.

Im surprised that all our guys dont transfer there, its so much better!

Correct me if i am wrong Sounds like you know more than me, but I still find it weird that Hargrave would "graduate" somebody even though they don't meet minimum NCAA standards for playing sports.

Yeah that is true, i only know what is in the press and the rules are complicated. There is probably someone out there who knows more than me who can answer this better.

Actually this isn't all that odd. Plenty of state schools require 15 units in some varying combinations or fewer. I know Penn State does for example.
So you could graduate from high school, be admitted to Penn State in a bachelor's program, but not be eligible for sports per the NCAA since they boosted the units required from 14 to 16.

I'm trying to figure out what this all means. With the NCAA, for a non-LD student, the SAT/GPA requirements are pretty cut and dry. About two-thirds of the way down this page: www.nats.us/player_zone/eligibility/clearinghouse.aspIt's different for students with learning disabilities and I'm pretty sure they're reviewed on more of a case-by-case basis. So I'm surprised his ineligibility already determined and he can't make up for it with summer classes. I'm thinking maybe this is all related to the fact that he wasn't considered an LD student going into HS, thus didn't have an IEP. Anyone have any experience with NCAA clearinghouse and LD?

Sorry, I know others will disagree but I really think this is best for both parties.
I think the knee jerk reaction is we really want Braswell here due to the lack of depth on the front line and his potential as a player. I think he would be a great benefit on this roster for 08-09.
However I would prefer not to start counting on a player that by all accounts could be ineligible once the BE portion of the schedule comes around, or at any time of his career.
I don't doubt his ability as a basketball player and not knowing him personally I don't want to question him as a student but if JT III and the staff have to constatntly be concerned if he will be part of this roster and qualify every season it seems like a bad fit.

why is it speculation? I don't know much about the NCAA clearinghouse and LD but Barker doesn't write Braswell isn't coming without JT3's knowledge and I would guess assent. It's almost a rule of journalism as far as I am concerned... Now other sources are making the same statements, in the same definite language... Balla do you know something about this situation the rest of us don't?

It sure sounds like he's out. I wish that Barker David knew how to write a clear article with some reference to sources, etc., so that this thread would not be necessary.

Ask the Boston Herald sports department: you don't really need any actual sources to print a story.
