Not to throw rain on the parade... but I have two objective criticisms... 2. Why did so many students leave with a minute or so left... ovbviously they haven't been around long - but we have to be there until the end! I agree that students peacing out early is unacceptable. The other thing no one has brought up is that when massive amounts of people leave early, the people who do stay have a tough time making it to the buses and I know I've been left behind at MCI before. Just another reason why having to bus the students sucks-when the bad students leave early, they usually take up all the buses...

I AGREE!!! I got really Editeded off and turned around and started screaming at them to stay there and not leave. I was beginning to curse and get infuriated and eventually CAHoya and a couple others insisted that I calm down and stop cursing at fellow students. Well now there's a shocker...I can't say I've ever heard you raise your voice in my life, Kurt. I had actually looked into buying CAHoya a taser gun for his birthday for "Kurt Kontrol" as I like to call it. (TBird: I remarked to my friend on the way out that one of the good things about being a non-GU student now was I didn't have to deal with the will-I-make-the-bus issue anymore.)

"Jeff Green is the best freshman in our league," Roberts said, "and [the Hoyas] are a lot more talented than people think. A lot of people made a mistake [picking Georgetown 11th] in the preseason polls."

AS for the students leaving early -- let's not be TOO harsh. After all, these are the students who CAME to the game, not the ones who are sitting in their dorm rooms or library. Those are the ones who need to be taken out to the woodshed!

This felt like our first solid win. By that I mean we were in control in the second half and almost pulled out a double digit lead against a BE opponent. I sat in the 200's last night and they were more or less empty. There were some local DC people who I was sitting with who were doing their best to cheer.
From that contingent, everyone feels pretty good about this team and is looking for any excuse to cheer. We made about three dumb plays in a row towards the end and I think that can be attributed to the minutes all of those guys had to play. It might be helpful to swing in guys like amadou, ramell, & crawford for even two minute stints just to give green, cook, bowman a chance to relax. I thought our guard D was as good as I have seen. Feeling pretty damn good about the BC & Seton Hall games.

Ohh, & one other thing. Yet another slow start! We have got to stop doing this. It was 10-4 early and then I lost count but I think we pulled it together. We can't do this on BC's home court.

Good win but a couple of areas need improvement. Free throws have been mentioned and I agree but in my view the bigger problem is rebounding. We cannot continue to be out rebounded, especially against quality teams, and hope to pull out wins. Let's hope that III has some new drills that will focus on rebounding and the art of boxing out.

Good win against a team that plays very hard, but not our A game by any means. Lots of areas of improvement- including FTs and rebounding. The guys need to come out on fire and with hustle against BC. When we started hustling and crashing the boards last night was when we pulled ahead of the Johnnies. Oh, and BTW- yes, I did choke on my FT shots, but I still should have hit the 3 pointer at halftime.

Does anyone else wonder what they put in the box that Jack chews on? You know, the one with our opponents' name on the outside? Just curious.

Good game for the Hoyas. Worst part of the game was the last two minutes when we seemed to completely disassemble with turnovers and missed foul shots. But, what a great game for forced turnovers (steals). At times it seemed like all of our players had arms 10 feet long.

That makes sense. If it was the old Jack, they woulda put Busch Lite or High Life in there. That dog LOVED the cheap stuff. The new Jack is *slightly* better behaved than old Jack. Don't get me wrong, I loved old Jack - especially when he'd be humping something during a TV timeout and the cameras would catch it and put it up on the jumbotron.

Any reason why we can't soak an opposing team's jersey in bacon fat and throw it to Jack? Better visual, and it saves the Chicken Madness.

Now that is a brilliant idea! Get Jersey and the fat...
Good for the TV plug.
Also, what about a modified Hoyas Jersey for Jack? Jack wearing a Hoyas jersey while going off on a competitor’s jersey

I sucked it up and bought the DirectTV ESPN Full Court, so I watched the Hoyas live for the first time yesterday. Observations:
(1) Our Hoyas are extremely enjoyable to watch. Very asthetically pleasing basketball with meaningful possessions, great spacing and sharing of the rock. JT III definitely learned his offense from Carril, not Pops.
(2) Every shot is a good shot. Even the three point shots are taken in the offense, not forced.
(3) Ashanti Cook and Brandon Bowman are SOOOOO MUCH BETTER this year than last year. Always skilled, they now couple that skill with higher basketball IQ, control and poise. Lethal.
(4) We play the passing lanes on defense so much smarter this year than last year. Bowman, Owens, Green and Cook do an amazing job of getting into those lanes for disruptions and steals.
(5) Although Jeff Green is amazing for a freshman and our best all around player, he has one major shortcoming . . . low post defense. This surprised me having read about but not seen the Hoyas. I would have expected him to be a defensive beast. He is great at help defense and off-the-ball, weak side rejections, but he gets backed in and shot over too easily. No doubt he will improve here, but this was a surprising area of weakness to me.
(6) Love Wallace, and realize he is a freshman, but he appears to be an average Big East PG in terms of skill, speed and up-side. If our incoming guards pan out, I expect Wallace to be a 20-25 minute per game guy as opposed to 30-35 minutes. Not entirely his fault, but he looked like a tired freshman on the last few possessions.
(7) No surprise that we have no depth. Where we lack depth the most is Bigs. So, why are all of our incoming recruits 6'1-6'6 guards and swing forwards? Are we going after any Bigs that could help Roy and Jeff next year.
GO HOYAS

That's from the recruiting thread. I've also heard on this board that we're going after a 6'10" kid named Paul Johnson but I don't have any more info about that.
