Well said, Mega!
Some of the comments made regarding transfers have been so totally out the box I almost got whiplash shaking my head. A few of the conclusions that have been jumped to are ridiculous. But I'm try to steer clear of the silliness these days, so I've not responded to certain comments. I do appreciate those who've tried to set the record straight.
BTW, for those of you who were too young at the time, Big John did not go after AI. Rather his mom approached him after Allen was incarcerated. In fact, prior to the bowling alley debacle, Georgetown was not among the teams that were high on Allen's list of prospective schools, if at all. After the trouble, though, AI's mom felt that Big John steer Allen in the right direction and help rehabilitate his image, so she met w/JT II and you know the rest.
I find Barker's story that Jeremiah will transfer to Indiana very interesting. If that's the case, Rivers clearly doesn't buy the negative image Crean has among certain Hoya Talkers. And I'd imagine PE II must have had some relatively positive things to say about his stay in Bloomington, too. Here's hoping Jeremiah finds the happiness he seeks at the end of his Hoosier rainbow.

Man, I just can't stay away from here for very long anymore--everytime I miss a few days, something big happens. I haven't read through all the postings on this, but to me it is a much bigger surprise than Macklin. Vern saw the big guys coming in and probably knew about other guys (Riley) being recruited and saw the writing on the wall. Rivers, however, was coming off a season where he was a key part of the team and would continue to be this year. Yes, we all (myself included) have given him a hard time around here for his offensive abilities. However, I don't think too many serious fans would deny that there were a number of games that Jeremiah was a MAJOR factor in helping us win on defense. Lots of Big East guards out there are breathing a sigh of relief. I wish Jeremiah and Vernon the best........I think they will be missed a lot next year. An interesting off-season to say the least!!

Rivers to Indiana? Crean must have liked how Jeremiah closed down the MU guards. Next, he'll want to schedule GU.

I don't get this transfer to Indiana. Even if they are rebuilding it's going to be a move from one bench to another. He must've really wanted to get out of Georgetown to spend an entire year on the bench just to spend two more years after that on the bench.

Crean will need to do some serious rebuilding. I think he is down to 7-8 players on the roster, several open scholarships for '08, committed hs seniors going somewhere else, etc... In '09, he'll get the services of a player who he knows and seen play (instead of an unproven freshman) and who averaged 18 BE mins.
IMO, with the program's tradition and facilities plus his ability to recruit, Crean will turn Indiana around in no time. But, that may be a problem for Rivers if he doesn't improve offensively. He could definitely end up watching another Eric Gordon from the bench and being used as a... wait for it... defensive stopper.

this move actually makes perfect sense. Or at least it would make sense if he could play right away. It makes less sense since he has to sit out a year. Crean needs help right now. He has 3 scholarship players returning. If rivers could play next year he'd start alongside crawford automatically. he'll probably still start in 09-10 any way but indiana is bringing in Creek who's a top 100 recruit. So he will have competition, but crean will probably go with 3 guards, so he'll have plenty of oppertunity.
what this move clearly shows is that Rivers made this move purely for playing time. He clearly doesn't care about winning by transfering to a program in such a bad spot. He clearly just wants to play as much as possible.

But the young guard felt like a shift to Crean's perimeter-oriented system would help him improve on last season's pedestrian production Really? I like Rivers, and I don't begrudge his decision, but if he thinks that perimeter shooting is his best contribution to a team, he might want to review some game tape.

I dunno HSB, I figure that between now and then Crean will have landed a couple recruits that will eat up the starting line, and Rivers will end up in the same position that he was here at Georgetown.
Just look at their recruiting list. For 2008 they've got 4 guards coming in and 3 of them are 3 stars, one a juco. Then they've got Maurice Creek coming in as a 4 star in '09, and they're hot after many other top recruits at the guard position. If they plucked just one of them it's easy to say that Jeremiah will be seeing the bench quickly.
Consider that Jordan Crawford probably has a starting job locked up for the next three years, one of the three stars from '08 will probably end up starting in at least his second year, if not first due to the lack of scholly players, they get lucky and pluck another top level guard in '09 along with Creek, and Jeremiah's already buried at the bottom before he gets to put on a jersey, and that's assuming that they start 3 guards. I'm not saying it's not possible he ends up with more PT than here, he probably will a bit, but if he expects a huge change I just don't see it happening.

Matthews, Mcneal, James...none of them shoot well from the outside. Crean won't be able to get enough guard recruits in time to fill his lineup and Rivers is the perfect big guard with a good handle that Crean can start. Will JR shoot well? Probably not but he'll get his shots and points like all Crean guards. Plus I'm sure they know each other fairly well so he's probably comfortable with Creepy. Seems to make sense.

My source was right about Indiana. Anyway it makes sense. Jeremiah participated in Crean's summercamp at Marquette last year before returning to Gtown for the KL, right? And Crean has a rep of being very guard friendly and letting guards do their thing on the court without too many set plays. Plus since Doc went to marquette I'm sure he has a good relationship with Crean as well considering the latter was coach at his old school for almost a decade. Two Final Four coaches (well, one won the whole darn thing twice) at big time programs are accepting former Hoya players that many of you write off as being terrible. Obviously those players bring something positive to the table. I just hope Jeremiah doesn't share any of III's comments from the banquet about Indiana with his new coach.

Crean is really loading up on guards. His best returning player is freshman SG Jordan Crawford. He's adding 4 incoming guards for 08 in Matt Roth, Nick Williams (former Marquette commit), Verdell Jones and Devan Dumes. Now he's got Jeremiah and Mo Creek for 09. That's 7 guards on the roster.

Maybe a place that has heated benches? Sorry, I couldn't help myself. Best of luck to Jeremiah, and it was nice of Doc to handle this with class, I didn't expect anything less from him. I agree with sleepyjackson, though, that roster is going to be full of guards, could possibly hit 8.
