I love this team and think they've still got a great chance in the dance. No meltdown here....yet.
Just wondered if anyone else is worried about this teams inability to box out the better bigs we've played.
Dorsey, Onuaku, Blair...these guys have killed us on the boards. It is easy to say, they kill everyone, but I really think this needs to get addressed in recruiting. With Samuels coming in at Louisville and Yancey Gates coming in at Cincy, it is about time we look to bring in some meat down low. Sims looks like he weighs about 150 lbs soaking wet, Braswell is no bigger than Macklin, and Monroe seems like more of a finesse guy too.
Can we recruit an enforcer already? Really wish we got that Dunigan kid...

True indeed. Not even a big guy just a guy with will.

Someone like Jahidi White would do. A big body that takes up a lot of space down low and won't get pushed around.

C'mon
we have rebounded well the past month.
Pitt is a tough matchup to deal with on the boards.
Yes, it needs to improve and it will. Monroe, Sims and Braswell can all rebound.

I couldn't find any mention of kids in his NBA.com profile or Wikipedia page, but he did get to act in a made-for-TV movie last year. www.imdb.com/name/nm2872119/

Jahidi would certainly do the trick. Being a product of the Esherick years, everytime I watch these games I think, man the numbers and accolades Sweetney would have collected under JTIII.
In response to the comment that we've generally been rebounding well. I agree. I also, however, think about what will happen when we play the other "top teams" in the country. Hansborough would eat us alive. As would Kevin Love. Dorsey again. And I don't even want to think about Kansas's boys. I think JTIII is a quality coach, and he can address those deficiencies these year so that we are still successful.
That said, it would be nice if in the coming years, when we face this problem, instead of putting in Jeremiah he can put in someone like Sweetney, Jahidi, or Don Reid.

staff seems to recruit guys that are athletic as opposed to sloggers, hence lean and no have big butts.

Isn't rebounding Chris Braswell's greatest attribute?

have always felt this is the one flaw in the way JTIII compiles a roster -- this factor definitely hurts us against certain teams

Braswell is listed at 6'9" and 220 (or 215 depending on the website).

It's actually pretty simple ... we just don't box out. Watch our players sometime -- they just turn and look at the basket.

We're capable of rebounding well. When we go into our lockdown D late in games it always involves us grabbing every defensive rebound. Unfortunately we can't do that for the whole game against some teams.

When you recruit/develop good players--they might leave to NBA early. You don't make up a roster knowing when they are ready to leave unless a player flat out tells you during recruiting process--with that said--you have to remember this team was expected to have Jeff Green on frontline with Roy, Dajuan, and Pat-there is your other rebounder.
Team has had all year to adjust--they'll be bringing in FOUR great rebounders next year--and will be fine. One loss and people get over dramatic about what is NOT there--well look at what is there-and to rebound better--the team needs to rebound as a TEAM--and they've proven they can. Didn't help that Summers was saddled with foul trouble as he's best rebounder on team right now.

Really wish we got that Dunigan kid... I think there is a tendency to assume that bulk and/or height necessarily translates into being a superior rebounder. It ain’t necessarily so! Heard the stories about 6’5” Perry McDonald? How about the JYD? Yeah, Jerome was 6’8”/6’9” but he was not at all beefy. I could go on, but the point is being a good rebounder is as much about positioning, desire, aggressiveness and savvy as it is height and weight. If size was the most important factor, Roy would be a dominant rebounder.

It's actually pretty simple ... we just don't box out. Watch our players sometime -- they just turn and look at the basket. I somewhat disagree. Recently I've been paying attention to this issue more and numerous times I will see someone like Hibbert step back four feet to put a body on the closest man but this means he is not moving deeper into the paint to have a better chance at the ball. As a result a lane big enough truck opens up and opponets go in without any interference.

It's probably also worth remembering that our best defensive defensive rebounder (Summers) was limited to 22 minutes because of foul trouble.
By the way, the team as a whole is a slightly better defensive rebounding team than they were last year, and individually Summers is more productive on the defensive glass than Green was. The big difference is on the offensive glass, where both Roy and Dajuan are much less prolific than they were last season.

I've always been surprised that Roy isn't a more prolific rebounder. Maybe it's because he contests (and sometimes tries to block) shots, putting him out of position?
