*** primarily links please ***Detours vanish along Cards' path to successBy Rick Bozich Louisville Courier-Journal The University of Louisville basketball team will visit Georgetown on Saturday to play for the regular-season championship of the Big East Conference.
You would have laughed at me if I had written that sentence Jan. 1. Actually, that's not true. I wouldn't have written it Jan. 1. Or Feb. 1.
[...]
"On Jan. 1 we were in last place in the conference," U of L senior David Padgett said. "On March 2 we're tied for first. That's not usually the route you take to a championship."
No, it isn't. But after closing out their home season by dispatching Villanova 68-54 in Freedom Hall yesterday, the Cardinals have assured themselves of a Game-of-the-Year moment Saturday in Washington, D.C.www.courier-journal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080303/COLUMNISTS01/803030447

Bozich is a great example of why spray-on tanning products don't work.
What strikes me about both articles is that neither article has any comments mocking Georgetown. I like UL's fan base, which seems to consistently keep it classy (as long as it doesn't involve UK).

Hibbert featured on Washington Post Live on Monday. 1-on-1 interview with Russ Thaler (about halfway down that page, under Monday, March 3, highlights): midatlantic.comcastsportsnet.com/shows-WPL.aspNot sure if that's clutter, but I didn't see it elsewhere.

If you love journalism, you've got to love BD. Mundane reporting speaks of what, where, when, why. Right on the nose...12 o'clock writing. Tons of those writers.
BD always aims left and right of target...11 o'clock, 1 o'clock...the underbelly of the story.
That kind of writing goes to your brain via your heart...stings you...invades your emotional life.
He's been doing that all year.
There are reporters and there are writers...Davis eschews all that on-the-nose stuff.
My book, it makes his work something special.

'Bring it on,' Pitino says of showdown SATURDAY'S GAME DETERMINES BIG EAST CHAMPBy Russ BrownKENTUCKY.COM The atmosphere inside the Verizon Center in Washington D.C. Saturday at high noon should be electric and pressure-packed. Big East co-leaders and top-15 clubs Louisville and Georgetown will be playing for the outright conference championship. A crowd of 20,000-plus will be on hand. It's Senior Day for the Hoyas, which means standout center Roy Hibbert's final home game. CBS TV cameras will be watching. To which UofL coach Rick Pitino says: Bring it on. www.kentucky.com/277/story/339398.html

Its a predictable WPost strategy. If there are to be two pre-game articles (spread out on Friday and Saturday) always make one of them about the opposing team. It would have been nice to focus on the Hoyas' senior instead or at th every least put out three pre-game articles (the game is big ebough to justify it) and make two of them strictly about the Hoyas.

"Georgetown never employs a full-court press, traps sparingly out of its base 2-3 zone defense, switches on virtually every ball screen, funnels slashers into 7-foot-2 senior center Roy Hibbert and places the bulk of its emphasis on challenging shots, not penetration or passes."
Do we really play a base 2-3??
