Where are you going? If it's Vegas, you have permission to skip the game, just make sure you sell your tickets to a Hoyas fan. The only thing better than watching the Hoyas live is watching them at a Vegas sports book getting loaded off of free beer and playing video poker.
If not Vegas, the way I see you have 3 choices. Pick your poison:
1) Gucci 2) Coach 3) Prada
Good luck!

Since you are posting the question, one may assume that the simple "How about we reschedule the trip for a weekend after the season. I'll buy the beer for us Verizon and dinner in Chinatown after the game." won't work. This must mean that the weekend plans are a) important to your wife, and b) in some subtle way a test of your devotion to her, i.e. you're screwed.
Get ready to grovel. You might want to start by noticing that she looks like she's lost weight. Then remind her how happy you were when the Hoyas made the Final Four, beat Duke, etc. and how good that was for your relationship. Then beg.

Dear X:
I must leave you. Why, I cannot say. Where, you cannot know. How I will get there ... I haven't decided yet. But every time I hear the wind blow, it will whisper the name "X".
With a love that will echo through the ages, (Your name here)
P.S. We're still going antiquing on Sunday, right?

C'mon, just tell her the truth... You got these tickets and you are taking an important client.* This is a career-altering, make-or-break client and you have absolutely no way out of it.
* Now if your occupation does not really involve clients per se, you'll just have to come up with something similarly creative.

Explain that if you don't get to go to the game... the inner child in you that she knows and loves will begin to die. she needs to nourish this little child by letting you go to the game.
in the end, promise her that you'll owe her one and that you'll never forget this gesture she is doing for you.

Tell her you are so looking forward to this trip and the opportunity for some family time, that you have invited your mother (or her least favorite inlaw) to come along. If that doesn't work, try her two least favorite inlaws.

"Dear Wife, if you're holding this letter you already know. The house has been boarded up. The doors. The windows. Everything. We're at the Comfort Inn. Room 112. I love you. Husband"

I'm surprised no one has said this yet. Quite frankly, IT'S YOUR DAMN FAULT FOR ALLOWING THIS BLASPHEMED VACATION TO HAVE BEEN SCHEDULED THIS WEEKEND IN THE FIRST PLACE. Do everyone on this board a favor, and give the tickets to someone who is actually big enough of a fan to have not scheduled a trip this weekend.

I bought two tickets to the game months ago, and a few weeks ago the in-laws decided to come to town to visit. The knock-down, drag-out fight with the missus centered on whether I'd ditch them early to go to the pre-game alumni happy hour or not. I eventually backed off and said I'd just go to the game.
See, the key is to stake out as much territory as you can early on, then you can make magnanimous concessions without sacrificing what's really important (i.e., being there for the entire game).

Mr. geedell, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent story about missing the game, were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this thread is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
