Deutsche Bank Debunks Skeptics with a ReportExcerpts International financial services heavyweight Deutsche Bank has taken aim at climate change skepticism in a just-released report that catalogs and counters the arguments denying man-made global warming.
The report, titled Climate Change: Addressing the Major Skeptic Arguments, was commissioned by the bank and written by scientists at Columbia University’s Earth Institute.
It lists 12 common claims used to argue against global warming and refutes each of them, pointing readers to corroborating sources. Its point is definitive.
“The paper’s clear conclusion is that the primary claims of the skeptics do not undermine the assertion that human-made climate change is already happening and is a serious long-term threat,” wrote Mark Fulton, the bank’s head of climate change research.

Open letter on climate change - from Taipei TimesExcerpt It cannot be emphasized too strongly that the core scientific findings about human-induced climate change and the dangers it poses for our collective future remain intact. The most important relevant fact is based on uncontroversial measurements: - The carbon dioxide concentration in the atmosphere is higher than it has been for at least the last half-million years. - It has risen by 30 percent since the start of the industrial era, mainly because of the burning of fossil fuels. - If the world continues to depend on fossil fuels to the extent it does today, carbon dioxide will be double the pre-industrial level within the next half-century. - This build-up is triggering long-term warming, the physical reasons for which are well-known and demonstrable in the laboratory.
Data from the US’ National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) show that - this year is set to be the warmest year globally since their records began in 1880. - June was the 304th consecutive month with a land and ocean temperature above the 20th-century average. - A report produced by NOAA last year analyzed findings from about 50 independent records monitoring temperature change, involving 10 separate indices. All 10 indicators showed a clear pattern of warming over the past half-century.

Vatican, British government join in pledge to fight climate changeExcerpts After a “working dinner” on September 17, leading officials of the Holy See and the British government issued a joint statement calling for more action to address world poverty and climate change.
The communiqué also expressed a mutual conviction that there is an urgent need “to rapidly reduce greenhouse gas emissions,” and switch to a "low-carbon economy," in response to the threat of climate change.

Ahhh, the global warming movement!
(Or global cooling, or global man-made climate change disaster, or whatever it is we're supposed to call it these days).
Winning hearts and minds one victim at a time:
I'm pretty sure PETA just saw that ad and said, "REALLY?"

What should he be responding to? That article is entirely diplomacy/politics, 0 science.
Are we supposed to be shocked there are politics going on in international relations? How absolutely shocking.

I am shocked that politics in international relations includes the U.S. bribing other countries with my (and your) money to back something the administration backs.

And how is this different from U.S. policy since, like, forever? Were you shocked by the payments (bribes by another name) to Sunni leaders which keyed the success of the surge in Iraq?

Amazing how many people take it upon themselves to speak for me or interpret what I say. I said what I said and meant it literally, not sarcastically. If anyone fails to see the difference between paying people to help a war effort in Iraq and paying people to support a resolution at a climate change meeting, I can't help you. As for Captain Renault, don't even know who he/she is.

Ed is too old for a Captain Renault reference, let's keep our pop culture references to the jazz age.
