The EPA knew Pell was under investigation. Pruitt spent $100,000 to go to Rome where he met climate skeptic Cardinal Pell, then under investigation for sexual assault. Pell was charged weeks later The Cardinal's name was not included in 4 versions of Pruitt's schedule released under FOIA.

The sexual abuse charge is, obviously, horrible. But, putting that aside, what does it matter what a Cardinal thinks about climate change? That can't be why Pruitt went to see him, can it?
Stuff like this makes me laugh at DallasHoyas' claims that this stuff happens in every administration.
Not excusing Pruitt or anyone else in this Administration in any way, shape or form. But off the top of my head I remember reading this years ago from The Atlantic - not exactly an organ of the Republican party: You're Paying for Leon Panetta's $30,000 Weekly CommuteLook, I don't want to get into a debate about why this situation is different for some reason than Pruitt's or Trump's or anyone else's. IMO our elected officials treat themselves to ridiculous motorcades and entourages, whether they're Republicans or Democrats, and no matter where they are in the government hierarchy. We can agree to disagree whether this administration is qualitatively different from previous ones in this regard.

From the article you just linked: Did you also remember he was Secretary of Defense and not an EPA Director? I think this is the perfect example of how disingenuous this argument is.. Pruitt is paying a ton of money in travel, and doing a slew of other things you didn't mention that are way more salacious. Pruitt isn't traveling home to his house to be with his family like Panetta. He's taking trips on G6's to lobby The Morrocan Government, on the behalf of his lobbyist landlord, who is charging him 50 dollars a night to live in a 5,000 dollar a month condo. You focus on one, not so good example, to make your point. And ignore the other 10 that prove that your point is not valid.

Not sure whether you really read it or not, but this is a poorly cribbed article from the Washington Times that got into theatlantic.com through what looks like the archives of an acquisition. The Washington Times is an organ of the Republican Party. That's really here nor there though, I'm just pointing out that your suggestion that this is unbiased or liberal leaning news is not quite true. To the actual point of your argument, all of YaBoy's points pretty much stand (you're comparing apples to oranges - EPA admin to Defense Secretary - and the requirements of the jobs are different). This isn't someone traveling home - this is someone *inventing* reasons to travel to destination locations and *inventing* reasons to get back to Oklahoma so he can mount a gubernatorial bid. www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/scott-pruitt-donald-trump-epa-chief-environment-43-days-home-state-travelling-oklahoma-global-a7858556.html The difference between this administration and others is that this administration does not want the EPA, the State Department, HUD, the DOE, or the Department of Energy to function in any meaningful way. I'm pretty cynical about whether they want the VA to function as well. Scott Pruitt's corruption or the fact that he's spending his energy networking and lobbying for oil companies isn't a black eye for them - it's a designed feature there to incapacitate the department.

If Pruitt wanted to talk to a cleric about climate change, why didn't he talk to the Pope? Oh, forget it, Pope Francis believes in man-made climate change and we should be stewards of the environment.

"Corruption is a feature, not a bug." My early nominee for quote of the year. Nicely done.

Owning Libs by supporting an EPA Director who is more concerned with a PR disaster than informing the general public that they might be drinking dirty water that even at low levels of exposure can cause Cancer, Birth Defects/Miscarriages and thyroid defects...

You wouldn't know the difference because the EPA wouldn't test the quality of that breath of air.

Watt, Gorsuch, and Lavelle were bad, but yes, probably a breath of that contaminated air.

Pruitt's only under 12 different investigations, as DallasHoya would say, this stuff happens under every administration where a cabinet member is corrupt at every level of the job, but stays because of the administration's firm commitment to destroying that department.
Grassley now threatening to call for him to resign if he threatens Iowa's ethanol racket, not because of the 12 investigations.

Last Week: EXCLUSIVE: Scott Pruitt’s aides tried to stop a federal study on water contamination from getting out after being warned the results would cause a “public relations nightmare” www.politico.com/story/2018/05/14/emails-white-house-interfered-with-science-study-536950 Today: The @ap, @cnn and E&E all showed up to cover this @epa meeting on widespread, dangerous contaminants in many drinking water systems around the country. We were all turned away at the door of the EPA building.

I'm of two minds here...
One : this is abhorrent and a disgusting use of government power to pump up coal from a nihilistic party that was screaming about "can't declare winners" but cares nothing of free markets and everything about maintaining political power
Two : these bozos haven't thought this through at all whatsoever - they do not understand the precedent they're setting here. If you can force grid operators to buy certain sources, that obviates the need for a carbon tax or cap and trade. The same reasoning and powers being used here could and should be used by any future Democratic administration to shut down coal plants, force the purchase of renewables, and get us off of fossil fuels. If this arbitrary Presidential control of the energy markets actually flies legally, and we don't need to get even 51 votes in the Senate or a majority in the House, climate change reducing greenhouse gas usage is a heck of a lot easier to deal with

This EPA should change its name to the Environmental Pollution Agency. I can't imagine how low the morale of the lifers there must be. SAD
The LA Times published an article the other day stating that the EPA wants to authorize the use of trucks with rebuilt diesel engines that pollute at 400 times the level of new conventional big rigs. The EPA is relying on a study that was publicly disavowed by the university that conducted the research. Even many Republicans are opposed to this. The California Assembly recently unanimously passed a bill that would impose fines starting at $25,000 for anyone using these rigs in California. Yet, the Environmental Pollution Agency is undeterred. How revolting is this?

Maybe this is how you drain the swamp? Pruitt is cartoonishly corrupt and a frequent liar but clearly that doesn't bother this White House, or Congressional Republicans much.

I bet the thing that finally pushes Pruitt out is that he spent his time searching for moisturizing lotion at Ritz Carlton hotels rather than the Trump International Hotel.
