Hey, at least the President had Ivanka sitting in for him at a work session. Sadly, that's probably "progress" in some sense.
While I'd have been much more likely to vote for Ivanka than for her father, how is it that she is, apparently, the best qualified person in this administration to participate in a bilateral work session with world leaders? It's horrifying that the most cogent argument for that choice of a replacement is, "At least it's not President Trump."

GOP hypocrites accused Obama from leading from behind. I guess they now like all the "winning" by abdicating the United States's leadership role in the world. Good for you GOP and all who enable this goat rodeo.

Eclipse was cool today. Amazing that scientists were able to predict it so perfectly, since science is so imprecise and what-not.

What's cool is that God was able to create a universe where the relative positions of bodies follow a precise pattern allowing scientists to predict things like eclipses so perfectly. Also, I presume your sarcasm about science being imprecise refers to the precision with which scientists can determine, with 100% accuracy that the first cell in a human has the same DNA as cells of the adult it precedes. Or the 100% accuracy with which DNA testing can determine if a person is male or female. Oh, you were referring to other things for which there is no 100% accuracy?

Too bad god couldn't do anything about pediatric brain cancer. Nobody is perfect I guess.

Typical for this Administration, but not normal.. EPA release personally attacks the journalist without pointing out any factual inaccuracies...

Can we impeach Pruitt??? I didn't spend 38 years with the EPA to see what it has become. The administrator and his lackeys are trying hard to minimize EPA's effectiveness.

Yeah, 100% should be the threshold. I assume that all of those people prepping for Hurricane Irma in Florida are wasting their time and money. After all, it's not 100% certain that they'll get hit. What's the point of acting unless you're 100% certain?

My point was it is the height of hypocrisy to call conservatives anti science if they are skeptical of man-made climate change if you refuse to accept scientific facts about abortion and sex identity.

The encyclical is a clear reckoning with the multifaceted climate crisis. Francis describes Earth as “an immense pile of filth” and mourns “the disappearance of thousands of plant and animal species” each year, “lost forever”; he calls access to clean water “a basic and universal human right” and notes the link between “current models of development and the throwaway culture”; he recognizes the “very solid scientific consensus” that global warming has human causes and the “ecological debt” that the global North, after centuries of market plunder and pollution, owes the less industrialized South. All of this, Pope Francis declares, causes “Sister Earth, along with all the abandoned of our world, to cry out, pleading that we take another course.” www.newyorker.com/news/news-desk/the-renewed-importance-of-pope-franciss-encyclical-on-climate-change“Global warming continues, due in part to human activity: 2015 was the warmest year on record, and 2016 will likely be warmer still,” Francis said. “This is leading to ever more severe droughts, floods, fires and extreme weather events.” “The world’s poor, though least responsible for climate change, are most vulnerable and already suffering its impact,” he said. www.washingtontimes.com/news/2016/sep/1/pope-francis-calls-climate-change-sin/

That's not true though. On both issues scientists say, it's complicated...
