This is what elites do, ridicule those with differing opinions. This is what everyone does. You do it too. If you want me to, I could easily go back through your history and link you to all the times you weren't earnest and sincere the way you expect everyone to treat you and show you how you mocked other people. But this is a 41 page thread, and you haven't demonstrated any interest in delving down into the science here or learning why people think climate change is the most important issue facing us in terms of productivity, security, and standard of life. Instead, you throw Drudge Report links into this thread that I don't think you even believe because you think it is fun and because I think you think that some smoking gun is going to come up that proves everyone wrong. If you're truly bothered by labels, and the idea that you're a racist/homophobe/sexist/anti-immigrant if you disagree on certain issues, is it really fair to be coming into this thread and telling everyone who disagrees with you that they are "elites"? Isn't that just the same thing?

What I find most ironic is that the poster referring to "elites" basically played the "I'm taking my ball and going home" card when asked what level of evidence would be enough to cause him to reevaluate his position. Even going so far as saying that another poster felt entitled to a response when asking a question he didn't feel like answering. Doesn't that sound a lot like when you were a little kid and caught your mom or dad in the wrong and they used the "because I said so" defense? I can't think of many avenues of discussion that are more condescending than that. If you don't want to explain why you believe or think what you believe or think, don't get involved in the conversation because, eventually, those beliefs will be questioned with regard to how you came to have them and how you justify keeping them in the face of ever-mounting evidence. Even if one chooses to believe that humans haven't been a factor in our very obviously changing climate, that's not the same as saying humans can't help to slow or affect the changing of the climate moving forward. You don't have to believe in the human impact to also believe that acting in a more ecologically responsible way is a good thing for the planet and for the general (over) population. If one thinks that getting a healthy percentage of the nearly 7 1/2 billion people on the planet on the same page with regard to the environment isn't good in the long run, I can't imagine how one could possibly come to that conclusion. And we're not talking about problems that aren't already happening and will only affect future generations. Here's one of many of the good programs out there worth a look: yearsoflivingdangerously.com/

If people still consider this not a problem, if you have an hour and forty minutes, this video helps you understand how bad a problem climate change is. The video offers some solutions, but nothing is easy.

Back in action after a while off. A few things:
(1) EasyEd is still alive and posting? That's awesome. Aren't you, like, 86 dude? Mad props.
(2) Climate change is still real as ever. Cool thing about facts: you don't need to believe them for them to still be true.
(3) Anybody else feel like this election was more 1716 than 2016? Some of the new positions and policies are positively medieval!

Prediction: 2016 will be the new 1998 for climate deniers, where they use an outlier extremely hot year caused by el Nino to try and argue that temps haven't risen in 10/12/14 years. I know there are posts in this thread from 2010-12 with idiotic arguments about temps "plateauing" and can't wait to see them again around the time JTIII is handing over the team to one of his kids to coach...

The only other countries in the world that don't support the Paris Climate Accord are Syria and Nicaragua.

Coincidentally, a move that helps Putin. Shocking.

Coincidentally, a move that helps Putin. Shocking. And a move that he promised those who voted for him he would do. So shocking only in the sense that a politician is keeping a promise.
