First, let me send out best wishes to everyone in Florida, including hifigator.
Second, I'm so glad that the Paris agreement is moving forward, because this whole climate agreement, signed by 190 nations and now ratified by 60 or so, is designed to stop events like Hurricane Matthew. Hopefully, with this momentous accord, we can stop the barrage of hurricanes that keep making landfall on the U.S.

Translation: First, I promise I'm not a bad person Second, just kidding, I'm actually the worst... Please specify which part of my post you disagree with. The entire comment? You somehow combined the concepts of "It snowed in May, this means Climate Change is BS" and "How can there be a shooting there, its a gun-free zone" into a comment that's even more worthless. Good job.

Good job. Thanks, but I can't take credit. I was just quoting Ron Allen of NBC.

Good job. This surprises you? That's this guy's M. O. Not sure why anyone engages him. The board would be a lot less cluttered if more people ignored his drivel.

Nevada, Don't you know that climate change is just a rumor started by China.

This thread has started to expose part of why Trump is now President-elect: the disdain those on the left have for anyone who disagrees with them.

This thread has started to expose part of why Trump is now President-elect: the disdain those on the left have for anyone who disagrees with them. As someone that is on the "right" on many issues (and a registered Republican), this is laughable. Climate change is settled science. If you do not believe so, first, I would ask you what it would take for you to change your mind. Surely, any Hoya would agree that all sorts of our preconceived notions can be proven false after some amount of evidence. So, there has to be some threshold where you would agree that there is conclusive evidence of climate change, right? It can't be right that it is settled that there isn't climate change. So what more would it take? I'm asking seriously. Second, anyone who believes otherwise is simply disqualified from receiving my vote (or a cabinet appointment) because they fail a simple test of rational and investigative thought. One of the key things I need in my officials is the ability to synthesize information that may not comport with their preconceptions and act appropriately. I can live with someone saying "I don't think we should do anything about t because the repercussions for the economy are too significant." Or: "I think future technology may solve it completely without making drastic cuts to carbon." I disagree but I at least find both views honest and rational. The reason Donald Trump won had little to do with liberals' disdain for those opposed. It was because he was able to somehow hold onto traditional GOP voters despite a campaign filled with promises antithetical to their views (the religious right, purely fiscal conservatives) while convincing some of the disaffected in this country that he could magically bring back manufacturing jobs without harming the larger economy in doing so.

You find those statements honest and rational? Honest in the sense that both admit the science is real and there is a problem. Rational in the sense that they at least can serve as the underlying premise for a real argument and discussion. Unlike the current "deniers" with whom it is not possible to have a discussion.

This thread has started to expose part of why Trump is now President-elect: the disdain those on the left have for anyone who disagrees with them. This is funny. The candidate that won ran, partially, on a platform of hate. He spewed less hate for Dems and the left than he did for large segments of the populace as a whole. Those on the right are the party of inclusion are they? They're more accepting of people and ideas? Umm. Okay. I don't think either side does particularly well when comparing how they're better at working with or respecting the other side of the aisle. FWIW, I think there's a distinction to be made between disdain of ideas and disdain for people that hold those ideas. There are people that cover both bases. Trump is one of those people.
