ESPN states that NCAA has notified IU of findings of major violations, rumored to involve Sampson and possibly lying about the whole recruit contact problem. IU to hold press conference today. Thank goodness they let Mike Davis go for that scumbag.

Whoever works for the NCAA did a lot of federal government memos.

DeJuan Blair: you have chosen. . . .wisely.
On a more serious note, why can't Sampson participate in calls to recruits? That seems like a silly rule. Unless that's a rule that only applies to coaches under probation. Then I guess it makes a little more sense (but still kind of silly).
Doesn't excuse what seems to be not only a plethora of violations, but also apparently lying repeatedly about those violations. I was just wondering about the rule.

Sampson is barred from participating in these calls by the NCAA due to his hundreds (over 500 I believe) of violations while at Oklahoma.

Maybe Indiana will get rid of Sampson and bring back Bob Knight now. He never got in trouble for NCAA violations, just hitting players and throwing chairs.

Sampson still uncertain of his status is the latest headline. Rumors in SC are that Purnell is on the IU short list assuming Sampson is fired.

Someone tell Kevin Millen not to be too quick in accepting the LSU job- I see a nice opening for him here.
Was the player in question Jimmy Chitwood?

Sampson should be banned from coaching NCAA basketball for the amount of time he spent on phone making illegal phone calls. Once that is done--he can coach CBB again. So he had over 500 illegal calls at OU--add whatever he did at Indiana and you have his punishment/banishment from sport. If it's 1000 days so be it. You can add another full calendar year for lying to IU and NCAA.
He'll be back after his suspension/banishment is up--because some winning starved program will be desperate and say "Kelvin's learned his lesson.....changed his ways...." and he'll commit more violations when he returns. He's a SCUMBALL--always has been and only thing missing from this ordeal is the hideous denim "dress shirt" he rocked for most of his career.

Now the players are threatening to boycott if he's fired.
Incredibly stupid move by the players. I hope Greenspan isn't such a giant pansy to give in.

IU's fanbase has been increasingly frustrated with the program's direction ever since Myles Brand put Bobby Knight on double-secret probation. If the firing and the boycott go through, expect complete and total abandonment of the program by most fans and donors. What an embarrasing situation.
Also -- is Kelvin Sampson getting advice from Roger Clemens? As long as you're not on trial for a criminal matter, when you are in the middle of a media storm you'd better throw the reporters some sort of bone (evidence) if you're going to claim total innocence.
