A Sox fan who has never lived in Chicago. I've never heard of such a thing?

A Sox fan who has never lived in Chicago. I've never heard of such a thing? Well, now you have. My parents are from Chicago, and I adopted the White Sox as my team when I was little, as that was just before the Dodgers moved to LA. I took last Thursday off to take my dad to the White Sox-Dodger matinee game. I wore my Chicago White Sox 2005 World Champions shirt. Sitting two rows behind us was another guy wearing the same shirt. There were quite a few guys wearing Sox jerseys. Of course, they were most likely transplanted Chicagoans.

Just don't tell me that now we're going to be subjected to White Sox Nation malarkey.
That "Nation" stuff has no business in baseball. With 30 teams to choose from, representing everything from big cities to local hamlets, there's no need for a team to claim "Nation" in its appeal. The whole point of baseball is to root for your local team. Even if you live in a little place like Kansas City.

With 1/6 of baseball's teams in California alone, and most states having no MLB team, I would suggest this is entirely wrong. My dad grew up in Texas before the days of the Rangers and even the Colt 45s and as a result has been a Yankee fan nearly his entire life. BTW, what do you consider a "local hamlet?" Kansas City?

Enough Sox talk, criminals.
I suggest we all hold hands and gently sing "Go, Cubs, Go" to welcome Mr. Harden and Mr. Gaudin to the club.
I say gently b/c I don't want to injure Mr. Harden with any rough singing.

Nathans really should have held the hot dog eating contest in the brewers dugout between Fielder and Sabathia. [shudder]
Is Fielder a vegitarian? I thought I heard that, but it can't be true. It just can't.

Don't you mean a bratwurst eating contest? I don't think hot dogs are officially allowed in Wisconsin.

Great pick ups for the Cubbies- I believe Hendry fleeced Beane here, unless Harden's arm is about to fall off. Even given the strong chance Harden will miss more time this season, he has a reasonable option for 2009 and Gaudin is the second most useful player in the trade as far as the Cubs roster goes (between him and Lieber they have two guys in the bullpen who would start for about 10 teams). Murton and Patterson may someday be starters, but not likely stars, and both are highly fungible commodities- LH corner outfielders and light hitting speedy 2B are a dime a dozen. Gallagher I guess is a bit of a wild card.

No complaints about today's events. As my father said, "They didn't give up anything. That Patterson is just like his brother...the higher you throw it, the harder he swings."

Not to mention another nice outing by Dempster at Wrigley.

Nah, there are plenty of hot dogs around here. One of them races in the sausage race. The sausages have to have something to chase out of town.

Doubtful, as I haven't heard rumors of steroids, and the Cubs training staff has learned to screen for female genitalia during the physical. Expensive lessons learned from Mark Prior. If he does have physical problems, however, he can challenge Prior's record of 86-23 in simulated games.

This is a gamble for the Cubs due to Harden's history of ailments, but the upside is the stratosphere. If Harden holds together, this will likely be a great move for them, and as was pointed out above, Gaudin isn't chopped liver either. Now that the Cubs and Brewers have made their moves, is the ball in the Cardinals' court?

Why not, they had all the best guys. Especially in the 50's when maybe your dad was a kid? Joe DiMaggio -- America's hero. Mickey Mantle. Yogi Berra... I mean, how can you not like a 3 time MVP catcher with a name like Yogi?!?! Heck, they even named a cartoon character after him!

Don't forget Casey, who was something of a living, breathing cartoon character. But I still hate the Yankees. Remember that it was the Yankees of that era that inspired a novel and musical about a guy selling his soul to the devil so his team could beat the Yankees. You gotta have heart, baby.

California? Kansas City? Yankees greats from the 1950's? I thought this was a Cubs thread.
