Agree with RDF on Big Tuna. I don't doubt he's a very good - perhaps even excellent - coach, but one who's myth is, in my opinion, blown way out of proportion. He is a Scott Norwood missed field goal away from being Mike Holmgren, when you look at it. Hell, maybe LESS than Holmgren when you break down the numbers.
.
If you don't give him a TON of credit for getting to and winning that Superbowl against Buffalo with a BACK UP QB, then yes. I guess you could lay it on a norwood FG and all the rest.
But for my money, winning 10 straight games with SImms, then have to finish up the season and all playoffs with a far less capable Jeff Hostetler, that is almost miraculous that the team won anyway.
All of that is ancient history when talking about the 'Boys and such, but it wouldn't be right to trivialize his remarkable record with the Giants. They were AWFUL when he took over. And then they won two Superbowls. That is a very big accomplishment.
Bill Belichick was as responsible if not MORE then Bill Parcells and history has proven it. Everyone talks about "what was Belichick in Cleveland....." well what has he been in every DC position he's worked? He does NOT get enough credit for sticking with Brady when Bledsoe returned and most coaches would've been chicken-feces and abided to the "starter can't lose job to injury" bullcrap. Look at Marty with Chiefs in the Gannon-Grbac mess back in '95.
Fact is--Belichick's DEFENSE beat the Niners and Bills as much as anything Bill Parcells did. Bill Parcells did nothing in Dallas without Belichick. Nothing. His best team record wise was his best season there--his initial season with players/system he despised and once he got things "his way" the teams declined--until last year where his own ignorance (everyone knew Romo was better suited for the QB position then Bledsoe) cost the Cowboys 3 early games and they waited until they were .500 to make the switch. You win 1/2 of those games Parcells gave away--you win division and possibly have a 1st Round BYE.
The man is the most overrated figure in the NFL bar none.
