There is a picture of Sylvester Croom in the dictionary if you look up the word--AWFUL. I don't even use the word, I just refer to bad football as CROOM--that team not only sucks, it was unprepared, poorly coached, and just bad. I wasn't impressed with LSU in the least--and who could be--their opponent is a joke. Croom took over a program that was at least competitive and now they are a laughingstock. He was an offensive coach in the NFL and his offense is not as good as a Pee Wee Football team. He should be fired now. Anyone who has seen his time at MSU would understand-there better not be any racism cried when he does get canned because he and his staff SUCK.
Watching that game was a waste and to me the true CFB season starts Saturday--but goodness sakes was Mississippi State CROOM--they've even taken their level of CROOM to a lower point.

RDF -- As you know up until 2001-02, Miss. State was a fun program to watch because of Jackie Sherrill's system of developing players and talent.
However, he lost his touch in 2001, and that Miss. State squad cratered to 2-9. Miss. State football has been a broken record since then, and you couple that with NCAA trouble for Sherrill, and Croom inherited a program well into its downswing. However, he has not put together anything resembling a consistent winner. Croom has 9 wins in 3 years. Now, there are mitigating factors -- in-state, Ole Miss and So.Miss attract good talent.
However, tonight was simply inexcusable. Henig Favred MSU out of a competitive fight with a seemingly disinterested LSU squad. I feel bummed for the Bulldogs' defense, which was keeping Miss. State in it, but every time they forced a stop, Henig would fling it to an LSU DB and the rout was on.

Last night's game was not only a blow to the Mississippi State program, but to the SEC's image as the most balanced conference in the land.
Hoped for a better game in Oregon State-Utah, but was underwhelmed by the level of football there, too. Here's hoping for more quality/excitement on Saturday.

I pretty much agree with you all. For almost the entire first half, State was keeping themselves in the game, even though their offense was downright anemic. I thought that State ... err, better make that Croom lost the game just before halftime when instead of playing it safe and going to the locker room down just 10-0, he decided to throw the ball and therefore turn it over. Ironically, they had moved out nearly to midfield running the ball. Even if they did nothing but kill some clock and punt, it is very likely that they go in still down only ten. Instead it was 17, and with LSU getting the ball first in the second half, and with the momentum, they drove the length of the field and all of a sudden, it was 24-0 and for all intents and purposes, done.

That was too bad, what happened to Syracuse last night. It was especially bad since Dick Vermeil and family were there in support of Robinson, and as they said he is such a great person. He cares about the person not just the player. Well, to steal a cliche', I guess it is true that "it couldn't have happened to a 'nicer' guy."
That game was thoroughly enjoyable.
On a related note, granted it was only against Syracuse's porous defense, but that new QB for Washington really impressed me. What was his name ... Huckler?

On a related note, granted it was only against Syracuse's porous defense, but that new QB for Washington really impressed me. What was his name ... Huckler? Jake "The Savior" Locker. And as impressive as he looked, UW can't take too much away from that game. Cuse's line on both sides of the ball was terrible, they couldn't run, they couldn't complete any deep passes and had to settle for those 6-7 yard completions that they couldn't string together enough to have a decent drive until the 4th quarter. Locker, meanwhile, looks like he might have some stamina issues. He came off the field after each drive in the first half looking like he was going to pass out. Hopefully that changes over time, because he's going to be scrambling away from pressure rather than cutting upfield a lot more in the next few weeks. As much as I hate to say it, the ESPN crew was right on Rankin. He has potential to be an electric RB, but he's going to be really frustrating when he decides to make three cuts and change direction on a four-yard run. It worked last night, but against a better defense he's going to need to start running upfield quicker. (As an aside, how terrible was the broadcast last night? Why Sean McDonough is allowed to broadcast any athletic event, let alone one involving his alma mater, is beyond me, and I don't think I've ever been as consistently annoyed by one person for three hours as much as I was by Schrutebag.) Nothing I saw yesterday indicated that UW is going to be able to upset Boise St/tOSU/USC, but at least they'll have a chance, which is better news in Seattle than anything that happened in 2004 or 2005.

Husky QB is Jake Locker--and he's the reason I said I expect Huskies to give USC fits later this month in Seattle. How great would it be for Willingham to have a great season in a league he's better suited to coach in--and see Weis and ND suck--in the same year that they fired Willingham? It would really bring some heat on the "mighty" Notre Dame.

Every time Appalachain State scores, Les Miles is even closer to being on the Michigan sideline.

normally, i have to wait until the osu or bowl game to be embarrassed to be a michigan fan. lloyd really out did himself today. he should be fired immediately. mike hart is the only player with any guts. henne hasn't improved since his freshman year. a complete disgrace.

Appalachian is Hot, Hot, Hot!
This certainly throws the Big 10/11 for a loop. Anybody know if this was the inaugural game of the Big Ten Network? The Conference has been in a stand off with Comcast, which is refusing to pay the enormous fee being demanded to show Big Ten games. Given this result, I think Comcast's hand in the negotiations just got strengthened.

The best line on the game was from Mark May: "If Lloyd Car was on the hot seat, now he's sitting on the sun."

Yeah it was the first game of the Big Ten network. They apparently made some comment about that fact after it was over tied in with the result.

Can Oklahoma State tackle? Did Boone Pickens pay $160m so that some JUCO loser can fail to wrap up on national television? This is terrible. I can't stand it when college teams play like arena league teams.

Oh Georgia moved the ball down the field "inexorably" according to ESPN2. I had no idea that this game was taking place in the SAT verbal section - KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE.
