If it turns out that he doped this will be terrible. an awful blemish on this accomplishment. Just awful awful news. I hope he can prove it's not true but even if he does the shadow of doubt has now been cast upon him and i fear even if he's proven innocent people will not look at his victory the same again.

I hate to say it, and I kept my mouth shut so far because it would've come across as a flame. Anyway, apology made, I was a MASSIVE cycling fan in the 90s during the Indurain era - easily the greatest cyclist of all time with Eddy Merckx. Anyway, once all the doping started, with guys like Pantani and Virenque, and then Ullrich and everyone else being caught, I got out of it. I couldn't stand it. The moment someone won something, he was caught. Literally the entire circuit is implicated directly or indirectly. There was a quote by a young German cyclist who's considered a huge talent, who after this Tour said something like, I knew doping was an issue, but after this Tour, let me just say it's everywhere. The field has been thoroughly depleted and the "top" cyclists left are a rude joke compared to an Indurain, Hinault, Merckx et al. I haven't taken any result in cycling seriously since '98. It's like watching UConn playing these last few years Maybe as interest in cycling continues to wane as it has in the last few years, there'll be some change due to the commercial realities teams will have to face. We can only hope, coz it's truly a great sport with a fabulous history. (By the way, the above might as well apply to baseball, tho I don't care much for that sport.)

As for me, any development that brings us closer to the "All-Drug Olympics" is a positive development. snltranscripts.jt.org/88/88aupdate.phtml"His trainer has told me that he's taken anabolic steroids, Novacaine, Nyquil, Darvon, and some sort of fish paralyzer. Also, I believe he's had a few cocktails within the last hour or so." But if not a shoutout for Floyd, then how about one for his mother? Cripes, you gotta' be worried when even your own mom won't take your side. Also, while I agree that Big Mig was one of the greatest ever, don't forget that he was wrapped up in doping charges too. He was always cleared, I believe, just as Lance Armstrong has always tested clean, but it wouldn't surprise me if he was on something too, especially back when testing was not as sophisticated as it is today.

This is awful. We were skyhigh with the wonderful achievement of Floyd's, then this news. We will have to wait for the B sample to validate or contradict the A sample results. Testosterone results are notorious for being all over the place (my boss takes testosterone, because of extremely low levels and trying to get a valid results takes lots of tests). However, my wife thinks that the testosterone levels were distorted was because Floyd's wife came the day before and well, you know what happens in that situation. He lived like a monk for weeks and then his wife came.

I think all this testerone in his system could because he is backed-up if you know what I mean. Riding a bike for a month doesn't leave much time to relive yourself, and now those silly French cracked down on hooking up with the babes that give you the flowers at the end of the stages.

listening to espn yesterday they were saying that it's not exactly that he had high testosterone in fact his was lower than normal. the test he failed was the ratio of testosterone to epitestosterone. so his testosterone was lower than normal but his epitestosterone was ridiculously low. they suggested this might have been a result of using cortezone for his bad hip.

If this is true, is there any possible way it could have worked to his advantage. I'm no physician (I'm only married to one), but if this is the basis for his being challenged, it sounds completely ridiculous.

not sure i'm not physician either (yet...possibly) but they said the normal ratio is supposed to be 1:1 and anything 4:1 or higher is flagged. The high ratio usually indicates use of growth hormone or anabolic steroids.

Man! Lance Armstrong & Greg LeMond just plain don't like each other, do they?

B-sample was positive as well. And down goes yet ANOTHER cyclist. This sport has been destroyed by all the doping. Makes me sad and sick.
Hey Floyd, if your J's not bad, Calhoun may have a scholly open for you for '07...

I think especially damning was the isotope ratio Mass Spec results indicating that the testosterone was at least partially synthetic. I think Landis could have made a case with just the ratios. In fact, several cases, depending on just the ratios have been thrown out. But the IRMS is pretty accurate. Just one more card to play: the French are out to get the Americans, so have a lab from a neutral country run the test.

The guy is a cheater and deserves all the scorn and ridicule and humiliation that is gonna come his way in the coming months/years. The guy is a complete tool who couldn't handle blowing "The Big One" so he cheated to get back in the hunt. As far as I'm concerned, he should enjoy retirement.
