[rant] Was anyone else annoyed as hell by Chris Berman and his "guesses" at what the pick might be? I know he's done this in the past, but it seemed to only be once or twice in the first round - usually somehting stupid with some taxi and Buffalo that nobody understood. But this year it was every single time. Deadspin ripped him pretty good for this and I admit that I yelled at him once or twice to shut the F up. [/rant]

I also noticed that he couldn't form a sentence during the early part of the broadcast.
To think--Vince Young--seven years old--on a bike--hit by a car--handlebar in his stomach--surgery--number 3 overall pick...

I was hoping the Ravens would get Whitehurst so I'd have a reason to actually pull for them. I'm happy for Tye Hill (3rd DB the Rams have gotten from Clemson in the past 12 years or so - McLeon and Sapp were the others I think.) I'm wondering whether the Chargers expect Whitehurst to supplant Feeley at some point as Rivers' back-up or if they think he might even push Rivers some. Don't put too much stock into his senior year.... he was hurt from the BC game through the bowl game and learning a new offense. I think the QB coach at SD could help him develop nicely. I'm pretty sure AJ intends Whitehurst to push Rivers at some point, but I don't think anyone expects him to be anything but #3 this year. The ideal situation for AJ is that Whitehurst sits for 2/3 years, then becomes bargaining leverage against Rivers just like Rivers was there against Brees. From all I've read, they do not think of him as a career backup type, though obviously, rarely do GMs say they think of a guy that way. He's obviously got the arm to start.

I can't stand the guy. Of course I enjoy ESPN about as much as getting teeth pulled while awake. My "low point" was any interview Suzy Kolber did--although at least she looks good again--after her year trying to prove she was a journalist after "Namath Smooch Gate". However, I'd have asked her how many oral favors she had to do to get that job after she pestered some of those guys--LenDale White, Cutler--she made crap of Vandy, etc....and then I'd ask how any network that employs Sean Salisbury as an "expert" and John Clayton as a league "insider" is to be taken serious? Only reason I even tuned in was because my ignorant Cable Company decided to remove the NFL Network 5 months ago and it meant having to go to the Worldwide Pukes for any updates.

I just realized I have NFL Network and didn't have to watch that ESPN schlock. Aargh. When are the changes coming at the Worldwide Leader? I rarely watch anything on the network anymore save Baseball Tonight (and I grow more and more annoyed with the idiots they continue to bring in -- get Gammons on the show every night), Sunday Night Baseball, and College Gameday/CFB programming during football season. The NFL and NBA shows are terrible. Sportscenter, the network's "flagship show" is dead to me. These seem to be common sentiments, so who is watching ESPN? Pimply teenagers who don't know any better? I fail to understand how they are not slipping big-time in the ratings.

I fail to understand how they are not slipping big-time in the ratings. Arrgh. Me, too. I don't mind Mel Kiper - he's basically the scouts' consensus. And Mort is okay, and I love Jaws. But everyone else is crap. Berman is long done, Hoge, Salisbury, Schlereth, etc are all idiots. Actually, Schlereth isn't an idiot, he's just arrogant. No one has ever been as good as him. Steve Young is boring. Michael Irvin is an idiot...and loud. I haven't watched Sportscenter in a year. Baseball Tonight used to be awesome, and now I have Steve Phillips telling me that Albert Pujols is better than Barry Bonds ever was...because...get this... "He's a better teammate." This is why Steve Phillips' teams were garbage. John Kruk went from likeable to sanctimonious ass. Harold Reynolds is only good when talking about playing second base -- he wasn't good at anything else.

Harold Reynolds is at his best doing the College World Series IMO.

I watch ESPN because I can actually filter through the garbage and get what I need - scores, news, and more scores and news. Ask me to name the three or four guys around the desk on any given show and I couldn't tell you - but I've probably seen every show they have. They show sports and they talk about sports...I'm a junkie, so I watch. And I'm no longer a teenager, so there. As for some of the sentiments shared...I do like Jaworski (aside from him being an Eagle, he's very good at what he does) and Schlereth (again, when I'm paying attention), and Harold Reynolds is indeed quite good at the CWS. And Erin Andrews is on ESPN...so we know Buff watches too.

Hell yes. Although I watch ESPN News a lot more. Gives me what I need, with none of these sponsor-pumping pieces (Coors Light Six Pack, Budweiser Hot Seat, etc.). SportsCenter is pure trash. Plain and simple. The internet has made the show almost completely worthless... and to compensate everything is yelling comentators, annoying flashing graphics, stupid sound effects, horrible announcers... the list goes on and on. Mort, Sailsbury, Clayton, Irvin... I can't stand any of these guys who are always SOOOOOOOOOO right, and anything else is just SOOOOOOOOO wrong. Merril Hodge stinks, too. I've had enough of these guys trying to make themselves bigger than the story/analysis. Its pathetic. Of course, I'm a bit of a hypocrite - 'cause we all know Mrs. BuffaloHoya's "major league yabo's" are bigger than any story/analysis. EDIT: See what I mean? Mrs. BuffaloHoya(Just click on the thumbnail for the full-sized image of Mrs. Buff)
