Just saw the replay, looks like it was absolute mayhem.
I've always felt that when fans pull punk-a**ed crap like that, the arena should have it's liquor license pulled for a couple of weeks. But it'll never happen, because that would cost the owners money.

I dont know what to say right now. After seeing the slow motion replays of artest and o'neal punching fans in the face I am in shock. That was the most chaotic thing I have ever seen at a sporting event, absolute insanity.

WOW! Just saw more footage of the Pacers in the stands literally fighting with the fans. That was complete mayhem. I never imagined that I would see something like that. It looked like some Pacers could get seriously hurt by the mob attacking them after they entered the stands.

Wish I hadn't turned off the game.
Where were the Pistons once it got out of hand? Did they head to the locker room, try to break it up, stand around slack-jawed at the chaos?

I saw a slow motion clip of him running at a fan and then sliding in at him as he hit him straight in the face with a powerful punch. The guy went flying backwards and hit the floor.

If you have access to a TV right now turn on ESPNews. They are showing tons of footage and analyzing the situation as well as getting reactions from the coaches. The Pistons were right in the middle of it. They may have tried to break it up eventually but I saw a clip of Artest running into the stands to attack a fan that had thrown something at him and then I saw Ben Wallace go after Artest. From the clips I saw it looked like some Pacers were gonna get seriously hurt by the fans punching them and attacking them. However, a couple Pacers (artest and o'neal, jackson too I guess) looked like they were gonna seriously injure fans.

Actually, after seeing that clip again of Artest running into the stands and attcking a fan, Big Ben did not go after him. He jumped up on the scorers table as if he was gonna chase down artest but then he stopped. Artest started attacking some guy and then a group of other fans joined the brawl and started punching him.

No ESPNews out in the wilderness of Colorado.
Watching it on the halftime report of ESPN - wow, much worse than I first thought. I still think the Pistons should get hammered for what their fans did; however, I don't know if their security ever expected or trained for something like that.

I think everyone is equally at fault here. Ben Wallace never should have reacted to that foul like that. Artest shouldnt have been taunting people by laying on the scorers table. Stephen Jackson should not have been calling people out. Big Ben should not have lost his mind and been determined to kill Artest. The fans should not have been throwing things at the players. The Pacers NEVER should have entered the stands. Artest and Stephen Jackson should not have been attacking fans in the stands. Fans should not have come on to the floor. Artest and Jermaine O'Neal should not have been punching fans in the face with all their force regardless of the fact that they were on the floor. Fans should not have been dumping drinks on players and throwing chairs at them as they were leaving the arena. Complete mayhem, everyone is a loser here, everyone is at fault.

Three things fueled this fight
(1) Artest lying on the scorer's table - Last time I checked my NBA rulebook, lying on the scorer's table does not equal staying/returning to your bench. If Artest was standing near or sitting on the bench, by the time he tried to make his way to the stands, he would have been stopped. No reason for him to lie on the table like that
(2) Poor fan judgment - Who in their right mind (or drunken mind) thinks it is a good idea to throw things at a player who is literally 15 feet away from you?
(3) Terrible security - Did anyone see the pepper spray come out by the police? It NEVER should have to come to that. There was ZERO security presence between the scorer's table and the stands.

Stephen Jackson should not have been calling people out. Big Ben should not have lost his mind and been determined to kill Artest. I mostly blame Artest. With the outcome of the game decided (in his team's favor) there was no need to dish out that hard foul on Wallace who must have already been frustrated with how the game was going on his own home court. Did Wallace overreact? Yes. But I can understand. And what did Artest do? He played that passive aggressive role ala that other nut job Dennis Rodman. His "who me, what did I do" attitude was sickening. To make matters worse he essentially taunted Wallace and the fans by lying down across the scorer's table with his hands folded behind his head. There was no excuse for the fan to throw that bottle at Artest at all. But Arest made himself a target in front of a bunch of drunk hooligans who already hated his guts. And then to go into the stands? Its unprofessional. But even worse it could have led to a riot by the fans which would have put the Pacers in even more jeopardy. Fortunately it didn't get that far as only a few knuckleheads were stupid enough to take on the Pacers head on. However a whole bunch of fans were willing to throw their remaining beer at the Pacers as they tried to leave the court. A lot of people should be ashamed of themselves. But the person who was the catalyst of the whole controversy was that mental midget Artest. Well, at least Artest will have that time off he needed to promote his album.

Wrong for him to go into the stands, no question, but for some reason the crew over at ESPN are giving Artest a free pass. And where in the hell was the Pistons security crew? I mean Artest went up into the seats untouched.
BTW, did you see that right that Jermaine O'Neal landed on that Pistons fan on the Court? wow.

I feel sorry for Artest...that Azz-Whoopin wasn't even meant for him...Ben just had some stuff building up in his life and Ron caused the eruption...
After witnessing that whole incident, I realize that Artest is not crazy...A crazy man would have charged Ben Wallace after he just gave him a double-throat thrust...Artest realized that this was a big Brotha from Alabama that could probably kill him with his bare hands...
I wish I could say I felt sorry for those fans...but I don't...They stepped over the line...and they got what they deserved...

As for the security issue, I think they could use some of the MCI Center staff. There are always so many of them at our games that it Editedes me off. They kneel on the floor in front of us before the game ends as if we are gonna storm the floor after a loss. Get those clowns out of there and into the Palace.

That was the most chaotic thing I have ever seen at a sporting event, absolute insanity. North Carolina A&T vs. North Carolina Central back in '89-'90... 300 people fighting on the floor including band members with instruments...that's not including the several fights that broke-out in the first half in the stands... Then the fight spilled out onto A&T's campus after the officials had called the game with about 15 minutes left to go... The Pistons/Pacers was bad...but the A&T/Central game was on another level...

LOL, 007. I only had one minor altercation with a security guard who wanted me to believe that CFree was a shooter. I may be a fan, but, come on, put down the Kool Aid.
