On the positive side, the turnout for the Men's game looked pretty good, despite the Cinci game being at the same time, but...
WaPo said the Men's game drew 3,500. Which kinda amazes me because I seem to recall last year's Duke game that drew a comparable number yet looked waaayyyyyy more packed than yesterday.
Where the AD gets these attendance numbers, I'll never know (especially for a field that *according to the university's own Web site* only seats 2,500)....

Further speculation on a Big East men's lax league: www.baltimoresun.com/sports/bal-sp.preston27feb27,0,5560195.column If Syracuse is on board, why not? So long as GU can keep OOC games with Navy, Loyola, UMCP, and Duke, the SOS doesn't really change and it could help raise the profile of the sport. Nova and PC would be weak sisters initially, but could be decent, and shouldn't be any worse than Fairfield and Hobart. ND is as good or better than UMass. And ideally you could upgrade on Penn State with someone from UVA/Princeton/Cornell/Hopkins to really get a strong schedule.

The women kicked some Mason butt today per www.guhoyas.com 14-7. I left when it was 12-3 or something like that. Did we put the reserves in after that? Mason seems to have scored 6 more goals in the second half than they did the first.

The Men beat up St. Johns to continue the unbeaten streak against them. Next up is Syracuse at Syracuse. I don't like our boys in orange territory.
The women deal with Denver today. Denver is one of those teams that can do anything they want when they click. Plus, playing in that high altitude environment is not good. Hopefully they pull of a win. Currently at 3-0.

The Hoya chimes in with a bunch of quotes from Urick, who apparently disagrees with Jack on the SOS/RPI. However, he also seems to have forgotten that Fairfield and Hobart are on the schedule every year. www.thehoya.com/node/15549“I have kind of mixed feelings,” Urick said of potentially leaving the ECAC. “I don’t want to leave those guys hanging, but at the same time we have to take care of ourselves and go with the conference's wishes.”
Urick is also concerned about the effect the move may have on his team’s strength of schedule. They lose games against Penn State, Loyola and Massachusetts in favor of games against weaker teams in Providence and Villanova.
“We could easily lose one or two of those schools from our schedule,” the 19th year head coach said. “It could have a negative effect on our RPI and strength of schedule, but we deal with that by playing teams like Maryland, Duke and Navy.”

Too bad Ashby's younger sister chose to go to Duke because she's lighting up the scoreboard too. The women still had #1 recruiting class in the country without her!

Hoyas lose to Cuse 9-8 in 2 OTs. Hoyas led 7-4 but Cuse sent the game to overtime with a goal with 2 seconds left in regulation.

I don't even remember how long it has been since we started the season 1-2. Hopefully the guys bounce back and this does not slow them down.
Earlier this week, the women won another game, I think Hopkins 12-10. Go us!

So they bounced back! I guess the loss a few days ago really sparked the team to kick some Blue Hen (Seriously?) butt. guhoyas.cstv.com/sports/m-lacros/recaps/031208aaa.html18-10 was the score in that upset. I do not remember the Hoyas scoring 18 or more in a long time, especially since it was Delaware. Now if you remember, Delaware had a pretty good season last year what with that first round win over UVA (powerhouse). We just seem to have done a better job shooting than they did because form the GUHoyas box score it seems the two teams were pretty much the same. We just generally don't score that much and it is definitely amazing to see it happen. The teams that end up winning it all in the end have the capability to go wild on offense and it is what we have been missing.

Nice win for the Hoyas. Who schedules a game for 3:30 on a Wednesday anyway? Regardless, it's good to see them bounce back strong from the Syracuse game. The offense is actually looking improved to my eyes. We have a lot of talent at middie, and will be even better when we get Kocis back.

The women just lost to Duke 12-11. The teams were close and Gtown was leading 10-9 when Duke scored three in a row. The Hoyas were not able to match them by the end.
They are now 5-1 and playing unranked William and Mary at home next week.
At halftime, Hobart leads the men 6-5

Great effort by the young Hoya women. Playing against Duke on the road ain't easy. Bodes well for the future. Men now lead Hobart 12-10 in the 4th.

And the men's game goes to 2OT!!!
If anyone remembers/attended last year's Princeton game you have something to compare this to. The Hoyas came back from behind, tied, led. Then Hobart came back late to tie the game.
Andrew Baird scored the winning goal with less than three minutes left in 2OT to give us the win. Assist by Brendan Cannon who did not score.

Women's lax squeaked one by William & Mary 9-8 (how many sports have we beaten them in this year? knock on wood).
They are now 6-1 heading to a BE match against Rutgers on Saturday at 2pm at Home!
The men (3-2) are also playing that day at 11am against Duke! A win here would make a statement that we need right now so please show up and be loud for both the guys and the gals!

Watching the Duke game on WMAR (ABC affiliate) here in Baltimore - they carry the ESPNU Lax matches every weekend locally.
Hoyas up 3-2 with 9:45 left in the 2nd.

WE BEAT DUKE!!!
GU MLAX beats Duke 11-7
This was Duke's first loss this season! God I can't stop smiling.
EDIT: Now that I have calmed down a bit here is what happened. Georgetown scored the first three goals of the game and Duke answered with 5 straight. Georgetown played catch up and the teams were tied at 7. Georgetown never looked back after that and scored 5 goals in the 4th Quarter, allowing Duke only one.
Duke was ranked 1st and was 8-0 coming into this game. Georgetown was ranked 10th and was 3-2 coming in.
We needed this victory badly and the guys did great. It's not every day that anyone beats Duke so this is a huge deal.
Also, WLAX defeated Rutgers 11-5 in a Big East Conference game.

Wow, congrats to the men laxers. And to think I thought it was pretty awesome watching Duke basketball lose on the VC floor.
