After another tough night, you have to wonder if his confidence is taking a hit. He just doesn't seem to do anything well right now other than block shots. He's got feet of concrete and hands of stone, a tough combination. I still somehow prefer him to Courtland Freeman, though. do you all see him developing into something other than Jameel Watkins?

My esteemed colleague---I must denounce your calumny (not the preference for McClellan over Grant in 1864-- but your assessment of Roy). I won't comment on his footwork, which is improving by the way, but his hands are better than they appear; he passes well from the high and low post.
He needs more physical conditioning and Sweetney to work with him on offensive moves in the box, especially in going up strong to the basket. Give the young man and scholar some time.....

I won't comment on his footwork, which is improving by the way, Good decision, WBH. Commenting on a player's footwork on the same message board that boasts MCIGuy as a contributor is somewhat like commenting on the components necessary for a great sonnet in the presence of William Shakespeare.

WBH, you are too kind to Big Roy. Hey, he's the nicest guy on the planet I think but he has run into rough times on the court. And we need him if we are going to compete for an at large.

This looks to me like Frank is talking about this year, and WBH is talking about developing Roy over several years, including working with Sweetney in the summer. It is unrealistic to expect huge strides from Roy this season. Not his fault. He has a good attitude, and has made serious contributions in many games to date. But he is a KID! (Is he the youngest player on the team? I am assuming he is.) And tall kids like him often take a while for their coordination and athleticism to "catch up" to their bodies. Meanwhile, he tries hard. And he's smart. And JT will figure out how to maximize his strengths and minimize his weaknesses. But we can only expect so much this year, and be happy with it.

I think that what Roy needs is continued signals from the fans, JTIII, the team, and the assistants that no one is giving up on him. I think that we are waiting for his potential to catch up with him right now - and until that happens his play is going to hinge on his confidence. Without that confidence we won't see him trying new post moves on the court.

Hey guys, no worries about anyone giving up on Big Roy. Everyone sees his potential. Beyond that, there are people in place to cultivate it. What can we say? Besides, Esherick might disagree (but thats about it), a well developed 7-2 player might help us in collegiate basketball... but I might be wrong...

so how many threads have we had now where someone has said Hibbs sucks only to have 10 other people say hes young, we don't expect him to contribute this year, and he has great potential? We are overdoing this topic and here's what we've found out:
He's not having a great year but we didn't expect him to He has great potential but is not the next Ewing He has good D and alters shots He has a great attitude and is a nice kid He is 18(probably the most repeated fact) He needs to learn how to hold onto the ball a little better He is a decent/ok rebounder He's willing to dive and be the 1st on the floor after a loose ball He is a great fit in the Princetown offense He needs to hit the weight room and be conditioned He needs to gain confidence He probably will never be a great offensive guy but will play solid d and be a good rebounder when he grows into his frame The ladies love him ******************************************* *** his name is actually pronounced "Wah hee-BEAR."*** *******************************************
Add on if you think of anything that has been said repeatedly

I didn't know Wah, err, Roy is French-Canadian! Perhaps he should try out for goalie on the hockey team. We do have a hockey team, don't we?

I'm sure that NYRHoya is better qualified to answer this question than I am since he actually plays on the third line for the hockey team - but yes we do have a hockey team and they're quite good.

Yes, yes they are in fact quite good, and have been for the last several years. All Hoyas who have even the smallest bit of interest should come out on Saturday Jan. 22 when Georgetown hosts DUKE in a rematch of last year's conference finals. I don't care what the sport, a Georgetown/Duke matchup is always fun. Unless its the 2003-2004 basketball season, but we won't talk about that ever again. Games are played at Cabin John Rink in Rockville, game time 8:15 pm. Show your love for G'Town/hatred for Duke on the eve of the Notre Dame game, and support these guys because they work really hard and do a great job. And yes, this has been a shameless plug for my old team. Good stuff.

Thanks lichahoya, Steve and i'm guessing Sussman for the plug for the Georgetown Hockey team. Somewhat ironically we play in the ACCHL and made the switch to that league the same year Virginia Tech and Miami moved from the Big East (the Big East doesn't have a NCAA or Club Ice Hockey league). So we play all the ACC teams and whoop on North Carolina every time we play them. Let's just say their hockey team is the polar opposite of this year's UNC basketball team ;D
We will have a bus to the Duke game, so everyone on this board that goes regularly to Basketball should show up and scream their lungs out for us. I'm surprised Dukie V hasn't mentioned Duke's league championship in the ACCHL as he seems to talk about everything else about the school.
GO HOYA HOCKEY and GO HOYA BASKETBALL!
And yes, I am a 3rd/4th liner on the team... thanks steve
