Agreed, it is possible that we are in the hunt for both men's and women's BE titles. We have a bit more depth on the men's side, so for the women to finish well in the big meets, they have to stay healthy. The men's 4-5 runners can come from a number of different people with the top three probably Debole, Bumbi, and Nunn.

The women moved up one place nationally too:
Cross Country Week 1 (9/25/06)
1) Stanford (390) 2) Colorado (369) 3) Michigan (366) 4) OKlahoma State (343) 5) Duke(328) 6) BYU (321) 7) Illinois (318) 8) Arkansas (289) 9) Wisconsin (260) 10) Washington (256) 11) UC Santa Barbara (251) 12) North Carolina State (247) 13) Princeton (241) 14) Arizona State (229) 15) Baylor (206) 16) Providence (190) 17) Iowa (186) 18) Tennessee (183) 19) Minnesota (163) 20) Michigan State (130) 21) Boston U. (114) 22) Virginia (100) 23) Georgetown (95) 24) Colorado State (81) 25) North Carolina (75) 26) Indiana (62) 27) Georgia (50) 28) Oregon (47) 29) Florida State (40) 30) Butler (25) Regionally they are second to Princeton. That is important, because the regionally qualifier determines who goes to the NCAAs (top two).

Interesting! Just read that one of the volunteer coaches for the Hoya XC team, Rebecca Walter, will go back to Michigan after the season, complete her degree, and run indoor and outdoor track for the Wolverines.

Men dropped to 15th in latest poll, while the women remained at 23. We probably won't really know how good the teams really are until the pre nat's in a couple of weeks, since our top runners have run very sparingly so far.

Yes, they have dropped to 15th, but as reformation says, we have rested our top runners. Pre nats are in less than two weeks now, so we will probably have our A team there. The polls are very volatile at this time of the year, as Oregon went from 17th to 6th, Texas went from 6th to 23rd, and North Carolina State went from unranked to 13th (ahead of the Hoyas). Michigan also went ahead of the Hoyas to result in the Hoyas' two place fall.
Cross Country Week 2 (10/03/06) 1) Wisconsin (449) 2) Arkansas (433) 3) Stanford (413) 4) Colorado (397) 5) Iona College (390) 6) Oregon (383) 7) Arizona (357) 8) Portland (334) 9) BYU (306) 10) Oklahoma State (304) 11) UTEP (280) 12) Minnesota (263) 13) North Carolina State (259) 14) Michigan (229) 15) Georgetown (218) 16) Virginia (212) 17) Alabama (190) 18) Providence (185) 19) William & Mary (168) 20) Arizona State (162) 21) Notre Dame (161) 22) Ohio State (136) 23) Texas (118) 24) Iowa State (113) 25) Florida (102) 26) Dartmouth (89) 27) Florida State (82) 28) Eastern Michigan (65) 29) Butler (41) 30) Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (36)

Yeah i'm not putting too much stock into the latest polls, let's just hope everybody is geared up for Terre Haute! Yes, I think they were a little embarrassed by their showing at nationals last year (although pre-nats was ok), so I think everything is geared for doing well at the NCAA meet.

In this week's poll the Hoyas remain the same: men 15, women 23.

In this week's poll, the men dropped one place to 16 (Alabama vaulted over the Hoyas), but the women made a significant move to 18, and now they are leading Princeton in the regional poll and are number one in the mid-Atlantic (important for NCAA bids). Next up Big East in less than two weeks now.

The women leapfrogged the men in this week's national poll. The women are now 15th and the men 16th.

The XC teams were supposed to compete at UVA today in the Cavalier meet, but no Hoyas showed up in the results. I would have expected a B team to show up.
