We're a better team that a #8 seed, but I did attend the GU at Loyola game, and we looked ugly. Couldn't stop anyone on D, not a good game at all. Loyola is traditionally strong, but had a pretty poor year. Losing the Loyola game equates to our Bball team dropping the BE closer to South Florida, which hurt our NCAA seeding.
Perhaps the perception of a goal tending crisis also weighed into the selection committee's decision. I don't know . . . getting slighted really really stinks when you deserve better, but maybe this will give us the motivation and determination we've lacked the last few years in the tourney to advance the the semi's.

Is that really true - that we may have received our lower seed, in part, because the committee is playing God with future match-ups and thinking about gate receipts?

It's an old boys network sort of thing in lacrosse still. Who knows what they were thinking?
As for TV, apparently people were dying to see Hofstra-Providence instead of GU-Navy. Yeah, that makes sense...So it won't be on ESPNU. Hopefully GUhoyas will have a webcast, but maybe there are regulations against that come NCAA time.

how do they figure that the market for Umass vs. Cornell and Hofstra-Providence is bigger than a GU-Navy game? Is the second round of the tourney exclusively on ESPNU also, cuz i dont get that back home and i figure that if we do get there at least playing the #1 seed will get us better tv coverage.

Well, I watched a webcast of the GU women's lacrosse first round game last year, so at least there's nothing stopping them from doing the women's game. It's funny how many people I know who are leaving on either Saturday or Sunday morning and will miss the game...same exact thing happened last year too (when the game was also on a Sunday). As for the second round, ESPNU is doing all the games, but they get picked up on various Regional Sports Net affiliates--like, for instance, Comcast Sportsnet DC showed all the QF games last year (the GU-Maryland game shares a tape w/ my copy of the CSF NIT game). I don't know (in fact I doubt) that Fox Sports Florida picks them up live, maybe tape delay...but you can check, or if you have a dish that gets a lot of the RSN's, do that. I don't so much care about increasing the gate at 1st round games (the travel restrictions do come into play there) and QFs (to the extent that, like the NCAA basketball tournament, you're purely trying to boost attendance and make it easier for fans). What DOES Edited me off, and gets my conspiracy theory juices boiling, is the thought that the committee seeds with a mind to attendance at the FINAL FOUR...I can't help but think that the JHU-Cuse and Princeton-Maryland potential QFs are NOT an accident. Of course, the solution to all this is for us to go out and beat Navy and UVA...why the heck not, right?

I really don't like our chances against UVA. They've been pretty amazing this year as shown by their 13-0 record. They've pretty much been untouchable. Not to use a tired cliche but they really are on a whole nuther level.

FL Hoya is exactly right. The ECAC lost its automatic bid when the league dropped below 6 members. ECAC will have an auto bid next year.
miami-There is no 1-0 score for the Duke game. When their season was canceled, the NCAA decided that games scheduled & thus not played would be considered as if they were never scheduled. We attempted to find a replacement opponent, but that is practically impossbile mid-season.
As for the seeding, we ABSOLUTELY got hosed, even with the Loyola game. I can see how the NCAA feels Cornell deserves a higher seed due the fact that they got an AQ. But the bigger factor here is without a doubt strength of schedule. Both Cornell AND Princeton have a better SOS, and losing the Duke came KILLS us. While it doesn't officially count against us (thank God b/c their current SOS is #28), their playing 1/2 season did NOTHING to help. They lost games against Virginia, GU, JHU, plus the 1 or 2 games against ranked opponents in the ACC Tourney. If those 1 or 2 games ended up being vs. MD & UVA (likely based on conference rankings at the time), the Duke SOS would have soared to #1. Transatively, our SOS & RPI would have gone up, just by having played them. As for losing to Loyola, their roller-coaster season sucked us into its down-swing. While they do have tradition, they needed to win some of their quality 1 & 2-goal losses to help us.
The goaltending issue is moot. The NCAA does not care. They might care in basketball (Gerry M), but not lax. The issue is anticipated revenues, and I agree with everyone that a 2nd-round matchup vs. Maryland, Navy, or Towson would be better attended than either potential matchup of us or Navy vs. UVA. UVA is simply not considered a DC school for lacrosse. Oddly enough, Loyola, Towson, and even UMBC are. Plus, with UVA the clear #1 seed for this tournament, people may have no interest in attending their games until the Final 4. I obviously know that Hoya fans will be interested, and the HoyaLax family travels extremely well. That is another argument against the committee screwing us. I simply don't understand the lack of logic on behalf of the NCAA (but I won't go into that novel here).

On the NCAA women's lacrosse website, it says that round one of the women's championship will be held at on-campus sites on Sunday, May 14. Does that mean that a playoff lacrosse doubleheader is in store at the Yard on Sunday?

Everyone and their mother applies to UVA from NoVa. It's basically the only VA lacrosse school. This is the closest major city to Charlottesville. I can assure you the kiddies playing NVJLL aren't wearing 'cuse shorts. UVA IS NoVa lax. If only we could get them during the regular season... Someday, when I'm king, I'm going to force the NCAA to explain their seeds for every sport. And if I don't agree, they'll go back to work. Grrr.

LOL as long as you are King, you might as well tell them what to vote. Oh, sorry, I mean "influence their opinion by logical arguement." That will just save time and we will know what our seeding is for years to come :-)
